Architecture is not merely building. It is a dialogue between space, nature, and the people who inhabit it. Here is how I explore that connection through design and mentorship.

This film provides a brief overview of my architectural journey, from my education at CEPT Ahmedabad and ETH Zurich to the founding of my studio. It highlights my key mentors and my philosophy of designing living ecosystems that are open, connected, and crafted with care.

The Ashadeep school in rural Varanasi, lit for a celebration. The accompanying quote, "Education is kindling of the flame and not filling of the vessel," is the guiding principle of my mentoring. I aim to inspire, not just instruct.

A session with students at Shabnam's House, a project very close to my heart. This artist's residence, inspired by Sufi folk traditions, is an example of how architecture can be a labor of love and patience, creating a sacred space that lives seamlessly with nature.

A heartwarming revisit to the artist's residence with the client, Shabnam Virmani, and a group for a reflective exercise. Seeing a space continue to inspire and host meaningful gatherings long after completion is immensely rewarding.

A quiet moment on a construction site, with disappearing hills and rain clouds in the background. For me, the practice of architecture is deeply connected to nature and poetry, a constant process of waiting, watching, and creating.

A page from a feature on my work in Art and Design Dimensions magazine. In it, I discuss my philosophy of celebrating materials for their inherent qualities and my encouragement to younger architects to embrace the everyday battle of practice as a path towards purposeful beauty.

Another view of the magazine feature, where I reflect on the privilege architects have to shape the built environment and make a positive impact on society by staying true to their mission.

About My Philosophy & Journey

When we work together, whether on a design project or through mentorship, I look for a narrative. You will not find fixed styles or pre-packaged templates here. My approach is to strip away the noise and find the specific rhythm of your site or your career path. If you are an architect looking to refine your voice, or a client seeking a space that tells your story, we begin by observing, waiting for the project to reveal what it wants to become.

Architecture is a continuous creative endeavor. My studio in Bangalore functions as a living classroom where we integrate practice and pedagogy. My work, ranging from the 1 Shanthi Road art residency to the MapBee collective, is grounded in the belief that spaces should be living ecosystems. I encourage my interns and collaborators to move beyond theory and touch the brick, steel, and light. We run hands-on workshops where we treat completed projects like Villa Soham as training grounds. For me, design is about discovering the leitmotif of a project, not imposing a signature aesthetic. Whether we are discussing your architectural portfolio or designing a home, we focus on the everyday realities and the raw potential of materials. My goal is to foster a space where you feel comfortable taking creative risks, guided by the understanding that architecture is a practice of patience and deep observation.

I treat my studio as a living classroom where practice and teaching are indistinguishable. Whether you are seeking a mentor to navigate your architectural career or a designer to build your home, my process relies on honesty, patience, and a deep, ongoing conversation with the materials.
