Immersive Architecture Mentorship and Design Workshops in Bengaluru
Join me for immersive studio workshops where we move beyond technical theory to find your unique architectural voice through art, drawing, and real-world spatial exploration.
A summary of the Playfield 1SR workshop, an in house studio I curated to encourage multiple readings of architecture through the medium of art. This video showcases the process and the remarkable outcomes from five students who were challenged to represent the 1 Shanthi Road art residency.
The final "steam punk" illustration by Ajith Salvin, titled 'Hoard Enations'. I encouraged Ajith to move beyond standard architectural drawings and tell a story, which led him to this surreal, industrial interpretation of the space as a machine for processing art and ideas.
The evolution of Ajith's drawing. This image shows the process of transforming a standard axonometric view into a complex, imaginative illustration, a key part of my mentoring is guiding students through this creative struggle.
The final drawing on brown paper, which gives it a warm, handmade quality despite its mechanical theme. This piece is a bold, intuitive, and refreshing take on the 1 Shanthi Road space.
An early concept sketch by Ajith. It shows the initial seeds of his idea, blending human elements with architectural forms, which we then developed into the final, more abstract piece.
A variation of the final illustration, showing the depth and detail of the line work. Ajith's work became an expression of the frantic, creative activity that defines the 1 Shanthi Road universe.
An overlay of Ajith's illustration, showing the complex layers of his drawing. This demonstrates the technical skill he developed during the workshop.
Ajith standing with his work. Though he remained dissatisfied, thinking it sketchy and incomplete, his work was a surprise to many and a testament to his unpredictable talent.
The title card for Ajith's work, 'Hoard Enations'. The name itself is a creative act, combining 'hoard' and 'emanation' to describe the flow of art and objects through the space.
Shreya Badera's work, 'Is it place or people?', inspired by M.C. Escher. I challenged her to explore the labyrinthine staircases of 1 Shanthi Road, and she developed this idea of using a transparent overlay to show the space with and without its inhabitants.
About The Playfield 1SR Workshop: Pushing Creative Boundaries
In our Playfield 1SR workshops, I do not teach you to draw buildings; I teach you to draw the spirit of a space. We take a location—like the complex, accretive architecture of 1 Shanthi Road—and dissect it through metaphors. Whether that becomes a surreal 'steam punk' industrial machine or a series of M.C. Escher-inspired spatial labyrinths, you will leave with a project that defines your own design language, not a copy of mine.
Architecture is often taught as a series of constraints and technical requirements, but the true craft lies in how you represent and perceive the space you inhabit. In my mentorship sessions, I create a studio environment where you are treated as a practicing professional, not an observer.
When we run an immersive workshop, the goal is discovery. We spend days analyzing the environment, looking for the 'why' behind the walls. I push my students to move beyond the standard axonometric drawings they learn in college and into the realm of storytelling. This is where the magic happens. A student might start with a standard plan, but with enough guidance, it evolves into a complex study of 'mass and void' that challenges the very idea of physical space. It is a rigorous process, but it is necessary. You will not just learn to draw better; you will learn to think through your hands.
Whether we are in a 5-day intensive studio program or a private 90-minute portfolio strategy session, my focus remains the same. We identify your creative gaps, audit your narrative structure, and find the tools—be it collage, model making, or conceptual writing—that allow you to express your vision clearly. If you are looking for a place where you can take real creative risks, be challenged, and walk away with a project that is uniquely yours, then this is the space for you.
Meeta Jain Architects
I am Meeta Jain. For me, teaching and practicing architecture are the same sacred endeavour. I do not believe in dictating a style; I believe in holding space for you to discover your own. My studio in Sanjayanagar is where we get our hands dirty, challenge convention, and build the future of architecture, one student at a time.
