About Hindustani Vocal Classes: Exploring Khayals and Bhajans
Most students join us because they want to move beyond simple karaoke. In our group sessions, you aren't just memorizing notes; you're sitting on the floor with a tanpura, learning how to control your breath for a perfect aalap. We limit batches to 4-8 students so your guru can correct your posture and pitch in real-time, ensuring you get the same careful attention as private lessons.
Your Journey in Hindustani Music
Whether you are humming along to a bhajan at home or want to dive deep into the complexities of khayal gayaki, our approach centers on shruthi (pitch) and laya (rhythm). We do not believe in rushed learning. You start with the basics—understanding the nuances of sargam and alankars—before we introduce you to raags like Bhupali or Miya Malhar.
Why Our Classes Are Different
- Real-Time Correction: We avoid large, impersonal batches. With 4 to 8 students, our gurus focus on individual swara placement and technique.
- Traditional Setting: We use traditional floor seating (mats) to aid breath control, which is essential for proper vocal projection in Indian classical music.
- Performance Ready: Theory is just half the battle. Every student prepares for our annual Kalaa Sangama festival, where you learn to handle a microphone, coordinate with a tabla player, and manage stage nerves.
- Dual Locations: Join our sessions at either our Basavanagudi or Malleshwaram center in Bengaluru.
What to Expect
If you are a beginner, we focus on devotional songs and basic bhajans to build your confidence and voice culture. For intermediate and advanced learners, we transition into Chota Khayals, focusing on Manodharma (improvisation) and the ability to execute taans clearly. We provide all notations, so you can practice with clarity at home.
World Music Conservatory
We are a music family, not just a school. Our gurus, including experienced Vidwans and Vidushis, treat every note as a conversation, teaching students of all ages to sing with honesty rather than just technical perfection.
