Yoga is not about holding a perfect pose. It is about feeling the stretch correctly and safely. Here is how I use hands-on adjustments to help you find your balance and prevent injury.

Here you can see my hands on approach in action. I am physically guiding students through a forward fold and a supported backbend, helping them to deepen the stretch while protecting their lower back and ensuring correct form.

Assisting a student with an inversion like a headstand is crucial for safety and building confidence. By providing support, I help her find her balance and alignment, allowing her to experience the full benefits of the pose without fear.

For deep stretches like this one, a gentle adjustment can make a world of difference. I am helping this student work on her hamstring and hip flexibility, ensuring her spine remains long and she is not putting undue strain on her joints.

About The Art of Alignment: Hands On Guidance

You might think doing a pose 'almost' right is good enough, but small alignment mistakes can lead to long-term strain, especially in the neck or lower back. In my sessions, I use hands-on adjustments to gently nudge your body into the right position. It is not about forcing you into a shape, but giving you the physical feedback you need to feel where the stretch should actually be happening.

Many students come to me having practiced Surya Namaskar for years, yet they still struggle with persistent back or knee pain. Sahi dhang se karo, tabhi fayda milega. When your alignment is off, you aren't just missing out on the benefits of the asana; you are potentially inviting injury.

My studio in Sector 104, Noida, is built to address this. I keep batch sizes small, capped at 12 students, specifically so I can walk around and provide tactile cues. Sometimes a gentle touch on your spine or a slight adjustment of your foot placement completely changes the sensation of the pose. It shifts the work from your joints to your muscles, making the movement functional rather than just repetitive.

If you cannot reach your toes, it does not mean you are failing. It means we need to use a block or a belt to bring the floor to you. We use bolsters, wall ropes, and straps to decompress the spine or safely explore inversions like headstands. These aren't crutches; they are tools that teach your body the 'shape' of the pose before you try it unsupported. Whether you are managing slip disc issues or just want to improve your posture, this focus on technique ensures you walk away feeling lighter and more aligned, not stiff.
