The Science & Philosophy of Yoga
Yoga is more than just stretching. Dive into the 'why' behind every pose, chant, and breath to truly balance your mind, body, and energy.
The symbol OM is more than just a sound; it represents different states of consciousness. In this educational session, I break down the meaning of A-U-M, explaining how each part corresponds to the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states, and how chanting it connects us to a higher awareness.
Hatha Yoga is the union of 'Ha' (Sun) and 'Tha' (Moon) energies within us. I explain the science behind how our nostrils relate to the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous systems, and how yogic breathing helps bring them into balance.
About The Science & Philosophy of Yoga
When I teach Hatha Yoga, we start with the basics of 'Ha' (Sun) and 'Tha' (Moon). Many students do not realize that your left nostril activation is directly linked to your parasympathetic nervous system—the rest-and-digest mode. By simply observing which nostril is dominant, you can determine if your body is in a fight-or-flight state or a relaxed one. This is the level of awareness I bring to every session, helping you move from mere movement to conscious practice.
At Aarambh Yoga Institute, my approach is rooted in the belief that yoga is a science. When you understand the logic behind a practice, the effects on your well-being become intentional rather than accidental.
Beyond the Asana
Whether we are chanting OM or practicing Hatha Yoga, I explain the anatomical and psychological reasoning behind it. For example, during OM chanting, we explore how the sound is structured into A-U-M, representing the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states. This is not just a spiritual mantra; it is a tool to navigate different states of consciousness and calm the mind.
Regulating Your Nervous System
We live in a world where we are often stuck in high-stress states. My sessions focus on using pranayama and mudras to regulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. You will learn to recognize when your body is running on 'fight-or-flight' energy and use specific yogic techniques to shift back into a state of balance and digestion.
Authentic Guidance
Yoga is a journey of the self. My role as your guide is to ensure you have the correct knowledge to perform these practices safely and effectively. With YCB and AYUSH accreditation, I keep my guidance grounded in traditional techniques, ensuring that whether you join us online or in person in Kandivali West, you are learning the authentic science of yoga.
