Stick Yoga Practice for Better Alignment
Use the wooden stick as your personal guide to balance and posture. This prop helps you find stability, deepen your stretches, and align your spine in ways your body will truly thank you for.
I incorporate Stick Yoga into my practice to explore balance and support in new ways. Using a prop like this helps in finding alignment and stability in both simple and complex poses.
About Stick Yoga Practice
Think of the wooden stick as an extension of your own spine. In my classes, we use it to get immediate feedback on your posture, helping you find stability in poses that usually feel wobbly. It is perfect for when you are building confidence, especially if you are working on your backbends or need to correct your slouching while standing.
When I introduce the stick into our yoga practice, the goal is not about looking a certain way. It is about creating a real, physical anchor for your body. Whether you are doing a standing forward fold or working on side stretches, the stick gives you a guide. It tells you exactly where your shoulders should be and how your spine is aligned. This tactile feedback is something you cannot get from just doing free-hand asanas.
Many of my students tell me that after one class with the stick, their regular practice feels different. They become more conscious of their back and their balance. It turns out, that extra prop makes a huge difference in avoiding strain and keeping the pose safe.
We use the stick yoga technique to:
- Deepen lateral stretches for the back and hips.
- Keep the spine long and tall during standing poses.
- Improve rotational mobility without over-straining the joints.
- Build confidence for beginners who are worried about losing their balance.
If you are in Model Town and looking for a way to refine your form, come join us. We focus on the how and the why rather than just counting reps. Let us see how much steadier your practice feels with a little bit of support.
