Prop-Assisted Yoga and Therapeutic Techniques
A deeper look into our studio practice. Explore how we use ropes, sticks, and specialized props to make alignment precise and healing accessible for everyone.
A dynamic sequence combining Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose) and Parivrtta Parsvakonasana (Revolved Side Angle Pose) using the rope wall for support. This flow builds core strength and improves digestion.
A quick and simple warm-up set combining forward bends, backbends, and lateral rotation. A balanced asana practice engages the whole body, creating holistic well being.
The spiritual energy of Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga. This is a source of deep inspiration for my practice and teaching.
A moment of rest and integration in Supta Virasana (Reclining Hero Pose) with bolsters for support. Rest is just as important as action in yoga.
Students in a supported inversion using the rope wall. This playful yet powerful pose helps to decompress the spine and improve circulation to the brain.
A challenging back-bending posture using the rope wall for support. This helps to open the chest and shoulders deeply while building upper body strength.
A student practicing Sirsasana (Headstand) with the support of aerial silks. This variation helps build confidence and ensures safety while learning inversions.
A student practicing Jala Neti, a kriya or cleansing technique for the nasal passages. This is part of our Kriya Yoga therapy, which purifies the body to allow prana to flow freely.
Why the stick is an important prop in our classes. It helps us visualize and maintain proper body alignment, serving as a clear guide for posture correction.
About Additional Glimpses of Our Practice
People often ask why we use so many props like belts, sticks, and rope walls in a yoga class. The answer is simple: safety and accessibility. Whether you are recovering from a chronic injury or simply struggling to reach a deep stretch, these tools act as an extension of your own limbs. They allow you to hold restorative poses longer without straining your joints, letting you focus on the breathwork—the real engine of your practice.
At Yogatute Health in Chamrajpet, our approach is inspired by the Iyengar tradition, where props are not accessories but essential tools for precision. You will see us using wall-mounted ropes for spinal traction, wooden benches for backbends, and sticks (danda) for postural correction. These aren't just for advanced students; they are the safest way for beginners to explore asanas without risking injury.
We also integrate Kriya Yoga techniques like Jala Neti to cleanse nasal passages, which is crucial for respiratory health and managing allergies or sinusitis. Our goal is to make the practice 'work-in' rather than just a workout. By using these props, we ensure that every student, regardless of age or fitness level, can achieve the correct alignment of the spine and limbs. This methodical approach is the foundation of our therapeutic sessions, whether we are addressing PCOD, back pain, or simply working on general mobility.
