Guided Yoga Practice with Props in Bandra
Find your alignment and depth with our prop-assisted classes. Whether you are working on mobility or easing into complex poses, our Bandra studio makes yoga accessible to every body.
This video shows how we make poses like Skandasana (side lunge) accessible. We demonstrate the full pose and then show a modification using a chair for support and stability.
Working on hip flexibility? We use props like blocks and folded towels to provide support and allow for a gentle, progressive opening of the hips in this lunge variation.
Achieving splits is a journey. This video demonstrates progressive drills for the front splits, including using a chair for balance as you build strength and flexibility.
Personal attention is key to our teaching. Here, an instructor uses a strap to help a student achieve better alignment and a deeper stretch in a seated pose.
The yoga wheel is a fantastic prop for opening the back and shoulders. This clip from our Yin class shows how we incorporate it for deep, restorative stretches.
Inversions can be intimidating, but not with the right support. We use chairs and guided assistance to help students safely learn and practice headstands.
Here’s another look at how we approach the front splits. Using a bolster and blocks for support allows you to ease into the stretch without straining your muscles.
Our prop-assisted classes show how versatile simple tools can be. Here, students use chairs and blocks to work on alignment, strength, and balance.
Every posture can be adapted. In this class, we use straps to assist with binds and chairs to support standing poses, making the practice inclusive for all.
About Guided Practice with Props
Think of props not as training wheels, but as tools to unlock a deeper understanding of your body. In our classes, we use chairs, blocks, and straps to help you find stability in poses like Skandasana or to safely open into a front split. It is not about forcing your body to fit the pose; it is about adjusting the pose to fit your body, letting you find that sense of 'samatvam' (evenness) without the strain.
Why We Use Props
Yoga at The Yoga House is rooted in the belief that the practice should meet you exactly where you are today. We use an Iyengar-inspired methodology, which means we prioritize precise alignment. Props like wooden bricks, cotton belts, bolsters, and even chairs allow us to work on flexibility and strength without risking injury.
Making Poses Accessible
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, props remove the frustration that often comes with 'trying to look like the picture.'
- Alignment: Use the rope wall to traction your spine or chairs to support standing poses, ensuring your joints are safe.
- Deepening: Straps help you reach binds and maintain length, while bolsters provide the necessary support for restorative Yin sessions.
- Progression: If you are working toward splits or inversions, we guide you through drill-based progressions using blocks and bolsters, ensuring you can sustain the pose long enough to actually feel the stretch.
Your Practice in Bandra
Our classes are held in the serene, heritage setting of Nargis Villa. We keep group sizes capped at 15 to ensure you get personalized attention and hands-on adjustments from our senior instructors. This small-group environment makes it easy to ask questions and explore what works for your unique anatomy.
Come as you are, bring your own mat (or rent one from us), and leave the outside noise at the door. Whether you are here to build strength, calm the mind, or simply move with intent, our prop-assisted classes provide the support you need to practice with confidence.
The Yoga House
We built The Yoga House to be your city hideout—a sunlit space in Bandra where you can step off the mat and into yourself. Here, the focus is on community, movement, and healing, creating a space that feels more like home than a fitness studio.
