At The Shala, our practice is rooted in the traditional Ashtanga method passed down by Guruji Sharath Jois. It is a path of discipline, humility, and gratitude that we share in every class.

Words of wisdom from my Guru, Sharath Jois. He reminds us not to get caught up in "crazy" poses, but to simply be on the mat every day and take the good from others.

The presence of a Guru is not confined by time or place. Sharath Ji's essence is felt in every practice, guiding and inspiring us to walk our truth.

A cherished memory with my teacher, Sharath Jois, in Pune. His guidance has been a light on my path, both in yoga and in life.

A moment of offering gratitude to my Guru. A teacher is a mirror who helps you see the light within yourself.

Learning directly from the source. A led class with Sharath Jois, where he observes and guides students in Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog).

Another precious moment with my teacher. I am forever grateful for the gift of this practice that he has bestowed upon us.

Sharath Ji has been a guiding light for so many of us. His humility and humor transformed the practice room and my life.

I am eternally grateful to have been his student. He taught us so much more than asana, sharing his wisdom with generosity and love.

His gift to us is eternal. We carry his wisdom in our hearts every time we step on the mat.

Guru Poornima is a day to honor the teachers who dispel darkness and point the way. This is my Guru, Sharath Jois, observing the practice.

About Our Lineage: Guided by Tradition

Lineage is not just a concept here, it is the silent rhythm of our Mysore-style sessions. When you step onto the mat, you are not following a fitness trend, but participating in a sequence preserved by my teacher, Sharath Jois. We move through these postures as a collective, grounded in the breathing patterns he taught us, allowing the physical practice to naturally settle into a moving meditation.

For us, lineage is the backbone of the practice. It means we do not invent sequences to look good on social media or follow passing fitness trends. Instead, we adhere to the sequence as taught to us, which allows students to measure their own progress over years rather than days. This consistency is exactly what makes the practice sustainable for the long term.

In our Mysore sessions, you will see this tradition in action. Everyone practices at their own pace, but the room moves as one. You are not waiting for a teacher to lead you through every breath, but learning to listen to your own body while receiving adjustments that help you deepen your posture. It is a quiet, disciplined environment that demands focus, but it is also where the most significant breakthroughs happen.

We also honor the traditional structure of the Ashtanga path, which includes respecting 'Moon Days' when the studio is closed, a time for rest and recovery. This is not about being rigid, but about aligning our energy with the natural rhythm of life. Whether you are coming for Hatha, Led Ashtanga, or our Flex and Flow classes in Delhi, this foundational philosophy remains the same. You come as you are, you show up consistently, and you let the practice—not the poses—change you.
