Yoga isn't just about postures; it's a lineage. My practice is rooted in the traditional Ashtanga of my guru, Sharath Jois. These moments capture the heart of my journey in Mysore.

I am deeply grateful for the time spent studying with my guru, Sharath Jois, in Mysore. This picture is a cherished memory that represents the 'parampara' or lineage, ensuring the teachings I share with you are authentic and straight from the source.

My daily ride to the Shala at the Sharath Yoga Centre in Mysore. This is where I return to deepen my practice and study, connecting with the roots of Ashtanga yoga.

A guru shows you the light. Another precious moment with Sharath Ji, whose guidance has been fundamental to my journey as both a student and a teacher of Ashtanga yoga.

A guru imparts wisdom that enlightens you. I am forever grateful for the guidance of Sharath Ji, which continues to shape my practice and my life every single day.

"The seat is empty, but the presence remains. Forever in practice." A moment of reflection on Guru Purnima, honoring the profound impact of my teacher, Sharath Ji.

Back to the roots. This montage captures the feeling of returning to Mysore: the journey, the practice at the shala, the nourishing food, and the wonderful community.

This interview at the Sharath Yoga Centre was a profound honor. It speaks to the legacy of Sharath Ji and the global community he built, a space where students from all over the world can come together to grow and thrive.

About My Guru & Lineage: The Mysore Parampara

Choosing a teacher is about finding a lineage that keeps the practice pure. When I share these postures with you, I am passing on the exact traditional methods I learned at the Sharath Yoga Centre in Mysore. This is not a watered-down version of yoga; it is the discipline as it was intended, taught with the specific corrections I received from my own guru. You get the benefit of that direct connection to the source every time you step onto your mat.

In a world where yoga often feels like a fitness trend, sticking to the parampara is my way of keeping the practice grounded. My journey as a Level 1 Authorised Teacher is built on years of repeating the same sequences in the traditional Mysore shala, guided by the watchful eye of Sharath Jois. When you practice Ashtanga with me, you are not just following a flow; you are following a structured methodology designed to build strength, flexibility, and, more importantly, a steady mind.

The Mysore style is about independent practice. You do not just follow me. You memorize the Sun Salutations, the standing postures, and the seated sequence. I am there to watch your breath, give verbal cues for alignment, and tell you when your body is ready for the next challenge. This is how I ensure you do not get injured and that you actually progress. Whether you are joining my online shala or coming to the Powai studio, the intent remains the same: a quiet, focused environment where the yoga happens between you, your mat, and your breath. We leave the ego at the door.

I am Sejal, and my teaching is a reflection of everything I learned on the dusty roads to Mysore and in the silent, early mornings at the Shala. I do not believe in show-off yoga. I believe in showing up, doing the work, and finding the rhythm that feels right for your body.
