Natural Dye & Ethical Handblock Printing
Sustainability is not a trend for us, it is the heartbeat of every piece we print. Using GOTS certified pigments and botanical dyes, we bring the garden to your fabric.
Indian Madder and Myrobalan are two traditional ingredients we often use for our natural dyes. Their mellow, earthy tones are prepared by our team in fresh batches for our workshops and production.

Our artisans demonstrate the traditional method of grinding myrobalan, a natural tannin, in a stone grinder. This ingredient is essential for fixing color in the natural dyeing process, a technique we share in our workshops.

Did you know many plants used for natural dyes also have medicinal benefits? We believe that using natural dyes not only creates beautiful, earthy fabrics but also makes them healthier for your skin.
We are proud to announce that our studio is now officially carbon neutral for all our production processes, in partnership with Climes. This is a huge leap forward in our commitment to positive environmental impact.
About The Sustainable Studio: Natural Dyes & Ethical Practices
When you opt for our natural dyeing process, we prepare every batch fresh using traditional tannins like myrobalan and plant resins. This slow, intentional approach is exactly what creates the mellow, earthy tones you see in these images, offering a result that is both gentle on your skin and kinder to the environment than synthetic alternatives.
For us at Tharangini, sustainability is deeply connected to our history. Located by the lake in Bangalore since 1977, we have learned that respecting nature is the only way to produce textiles that last.
Our Approach to Dyeing
We avoid synthetic chemicals entirely. Instead, we use GOTS certified organic pigments and traditional natural dyes. You will find ingredients like Indian Madder for deep reds and Myrobalan as a tannin to fix colours naturally. Because these dyes come from plants, there is a beautiful, subtle variation in every batch—what some might call imperfection, we see as proof of the hand-made process. It is a slow, steady rhythm that respects the material.
A Commitment to the Future
Beyond the dye table, we are constantly looking at how to reduce our footprint. Our studio is officially carbon neutral, a milestone we achieved by measuring and offsetting the impact of our production. We are not just preserving the past; we are actively trying to ensure that our craft has a place in a cleaner future.
What to Expect
Whether you are working with us on a large collection or a small project, please plan for the nature of these materials. Natural dyes behave differently on various fabrics like silk, linen, or velvet. They require specific care and curing, which takes time. We invite you to see our process as a partnership, one where we exchange ideas and create something that is not just a product, but a keepsake intended to stay with you for years.
Tharangini Studio
We are Tharangini, and this studio by the lake has been our family's home for decades. We believe in slow, meaningful work, from grinding our own dyes to carving teak blocks, keeping our heritage alive for the next generation.
