A Saturday well spent in our garden studio. This video captures moments from our eco-printing and natural dyeing workshop, where participants transformed simple fabrics into botanical art under the guidance of our team.

The joy of creation is infectious. A member of our outreach program with the Asha Foundation beams with pride as she masters a new pattern, her smile reflecting the happiness that comes from making something beautiful with her own hands.

A participant in our 'Revive & Renew' workshop thoughtfully drapes her newly printed saree. It's a joy to see our guests bring their creative visions to life, blending modern styling with traditional block printing.

Guided by our artisan, a young participant from the Asha Foundation carefully places the block. We focus on abilities, not disabilities, and it's moments like these that show the incredible talent waiting to be discovered.

About The Block Printing Experience

This is not a sterile classroom environment. You will be working directly alongside our master artisans at our long printing tables, using the same GOTS-certified organic dyes and rare vintage teak blocks we use for our own professional collections. Whether you are bringing a saree to upcycle or printing a canvas tote, you will learn the precise art of block registration and pressure control that transforms a simple fabric into a piece of art.

When you join us at our Sadashivnagar estate near Sankey Tank, you are stepping into a continuum of craft that spans nearly five decades. Our studio is more than a workspace; it is a living archive where we preserve thousands of vintage woodblocks, including rare motifs like the Gandabherunda.

What happens during your session?

We strip away the noise of city life to focus on the rhythm of printing. You will learn the entire process, from understanding how we grind pigments for our natural dyes to the technical skill of aligning blocks for multi-color patterns.

Options for your experience:

  • Signature Printing: Ideal for beginners, this session lets you work with our archival blocks to print your own scarf or tote bag.
  • BYO Saree Upcycling: A full-day workshop where we help you give new life to your favorite natural-fiber saree using expert layout consultation.
  • Woodblock Carving: For those who want to go deeper, learn the craft of carving your own teak block using traditional chisels with our master carver.

Everything you need is provided, including South Indian filter coffee to keep you fueled. We believe craft is a language that brings people together, and our workshops are designed to be inclusive, hands-on, and deeply personal. You will leave not just with a product, but with a new respect for the steady hands and patience that sustain this heritage craft.

At Tharangini, this craft is our family's life work. My mother Lakshmi started this studio in 1977, and today our artisans, some of whom have been here for generations, are excited to share these vintage block techniques with you.
