Step into our serene studio in Sadashivnagar to experience the art of block printing. From historic Gandabherunda motifs to sustainable natural dyes, discover the stories printed by hand in our heritage studio since 1977.

This is where the magic happens. Watch as our master artisan brings the mythical Gandabherunda to life, one precise press at a time. This is more than just printing; it's the passing of a story from a vintage block onto new fabric, a process we are honored to share with you.

How do we achieve such precision in multi-color prints? It’s all in the ingenious, time-honored techniques of our master carvers. This video shows the 'jugaad' and immense skill involved in tracing and carving separate blocks that fit together perfectly, no fancy equipment needed.

The journey of color begins here. Our artisan, Banu, is hand-grinding Myrobalan, a key ingredient for our natural dyes. We believe in using organic, GOTS-certified materials, connecting our craft directly to the earth and its gentle, elegant hues.

Our workshops are built on personal guidance and shared knowledge. Here, one of our master artisans guides a participant, ensuring she finds her rhythm. It's a collaborative process, where decades of experience meet fresh curiosity.

The final reveal. After the printing, dyeing, and washing, we hang our creations to dry in the warm Bangalore air. Each piece of fabric, from intricate silk stoles to custom sarees, tells a unique story of the hands that made it.

We are proud custodians of Karnataka's rich heritage. This vintage block features the Gandabherunda, the iconic two-headed eagle of the Kingdom of Mysore. It's not just a design; it's a piece of local history we keep alive in our studio.

Welcome to our peaceful, leafy haven. Our studio is intentionally built to coexist with nature, providing a tranquil escape from the city where you can connect with creativity, our artisan family, and the environment.

This is our family. A beautiful moment capturing our team alongside visiting artists from the Bábbarra Women's Centre. We believe in the power of craft to connect communities and create lasting relationships across cultures.

The joy of collaboration. Here, designer Indira Varma and one of our master artisans share a smile during the creation of a new piece. This partnership is where thoughtful design intervention meets the deep-rooted expertise of our craftspeople.

About Featured

When you step up to our printing tables, you are not just watching; you are learning how our artisans mix natural pigments by eye and balance fabric alignment without modern machinery. It is slower and messier than you might expect, but there is a distinct rhythm to pressing a teak block that you have to feel yourself to truly understand.

Our studio is not just a place of production; it is a living archive. We call this our featured collection because it captures the essence of what happens here daily. We operate out of a quiet estate by the lake in Sadashivnagar, an environment we have protected to keep our practice in harmony with the nature around us.

We believe that block printing is a conversation. When you join us, you are entering a space that has been active since 1977, founded by my mother, Lakshmi. We do not use shortcuts. You will see us working with GOTS-certified organic dyes and rare, vintage teak wood blocks that we have preserved for decades. We are the custodians of one of South India's largest private archives, and our workshops are designed to pass these techniques to you.

Whether you are interested in the precise skill of woodblock carving or the organic, earthy science of natural dyeing, you will find that our process relies on patience. We mix our own pastes, we carve our own blocks, and we encourage participants to get their hands dirty. This is the heart of what we do: keeping the old-school charm of Bangalore's textile heritage alive through communal learning and honest craftsmanship.
