About Swarveni Utsav: Our Annual Celebration

In our Swarveni Utsav, we insist on acoustic purity whenever the venue size allows, as this is the only way to truly appreciate the subtlety of a raga and the natural resonance of the human voice. This annual event is a rigorous proving ground where every student learns that the audience’s presence is an extension of the meditation we practice in the classroom.

The Swarveni Utsav is not merely a stage performance. It is the culmination of our year-round work at the Gurukul. Throughout the year, students focus on the technical rigors of Hindustani classical music, but the Utsav is where they learn to infuse that technique with 'bhaav', or emotion.

For many students, this is their first experience performing in a public 'baithak' setting. We structure the event to mirror the traditional mehfil format, allowing the audience to sit close to the artists. This proximity creates a shared atmosphere of introspection and devotion.

We present a variety of performances, ranging from foundational raga recitals to complex vocal bandishes. My son Suramya and I accompany our students, ensuring they maintain the discipline of the Guru-Shishya parampara even when they are in the spotlight. Whether it is a solo rendition or a vocal duet, the goal remains the same: to present music that is honest and heartfelt. We invite you to join us for our next gathering, to witness the growth of our young artists and to experience the stillness that only classical music can provide.

I am Pt. Ashish Narayan Tripathi. For me, music is a conversation with the divine, and here at Swarveni Gurukul, we teach every student to find their own voice within the ancient tradition of our elders. My son Suramya and I are dedicated to preserving this legacy and inviting you to share in this musical journey.
