The Art of Hindustani Classical: Our Musical Lineage
Music is a spiritual offering, not just a performance. At Swarveni Gurukul, we follow the timeless wisdom of our legends to keep the tradition of Hindustani classical music alive.
The words of the great Pt. Rajan Mishra ji, reminding us that music is a spiritual journey requiring complete surrender. This philosophy is the foundation of our teaching at Swarveni Gurukul.
A profound thought from the legendary Pt. Kumar Gandharva, who taught that music is an art to be thought about, not just practiced endlessly. We encourage our students to think deeply about the music they create.
An inspirational quote from Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji, who saw music as a bridge to the divine. We strive to honor this legacy by embracing the spiritual depth of our art.
A quote from Mozart that resonates deeply with our own philosophy. The silence between the notes, the pause, is where the true feeling or 'bhaav' of the music resides.
About Our Musical Lineage & Philosophy
When you engage with our music, you are stepping into a conversation that has been passed down through generations. Our approach is not just about mastering complex taans, but understanding the silence and the bhaav (emotion) between every note. Whether you join our baithaks or enroll in our vocal classes, you learn to treat music as a form of personal meditation.
At Swarveni Gurukul, we believe that music begins where imitation ends. Our philosophy is rooted in the Guru-Shishya Parampara, where learning is not a transaction but a long-term journey of deep taaleim (training).
The Philosophy of Bhaav
For us, music is a sadhana. When we perform or teach, we focus on the soul of the raga rather than just the mechanics of the notes. This is why our baithaks are intentionally designed to be intimate—they allow the listener and the artist to connect on a human level, focusing on the Raga, rhythm, and the emotional rasa (essence) that brings the music to life.
Our Approach to Learning
Our teaching style at the Gurukul in Rohini, as well as our online modules, moves away from rote learning. We encourage students to listen deeply and think about the music they create. Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps or an advanced student looking to refine your technique, we guide you to find your own voice within the classical framework.
Why Tradition Matters
We honor the lineage of maestros like Pandit Jasraj and Pandit Kumar Gandharva because their lives teach us that music is a bridge to the divine. By keeping these traditions alive in our workshops, private baithaks, and concert performances, we ensure that the next generation of listeners and students understands the weight and beauty of this heritage. If you are looking for music that is real, heartfelt, and historically grounded, we welcome you to join our musical family.
Swarveni Gurukul
I am Pt. Ashish Narayan Tripathi, and Swarveni Gurukul is where I live my music every day. My son Suramya and I treat every student like family, passing down the ragas exactly as we learned them from our own elders. We invite you to experience this musical journey with us.
