Gurupoornima Classical Music Celebrations in Bengaluru
Honoring our musical lineage and the Guru-Shishya tradition through sacred performances at Alaap Sangeet Sabha.
Speaking at our Gurupoornima celebration. It is a day to express gratitude for my own gurus and to share my thoughts on this beautiful tradition with my students and our guests.

Another performance from the Gurupoornima stage, featuring vocal, tabla, and harmonium. The event is a celebration of all forms of Hindustani classical music.

About Gurupoornima Celebrations
Gurupoornima is not just a performance date for us—it is a gathering to honor our musical lineage. When we host these baithaks, we open our doors to share the Guru-Shishya tradition exactly as it was passed down to me. If you are looking for a spiritually grounded musical experience, this is the environment where my students and I truly connect with our audience, far removed from the noise of typical stage shows.
For me, music is about passing on the flame. As Ustad Vilayat Khan said, 'Diya se hi diya jalta hai'—a lamp is lit from another. Our Gurupoornima celebrations are the purest expression of this philosophy at Alaap Sangeet Sabha.
What Defines Our Celebrations
These are not loud, commercial events. They are intimate musical offerings where we play with the intent of learning and sharing. You will find us seated on the floor in a traditional baithak style, which allows the subtle nuances of the sitar and the rhythm of the tabla to resonate clearly without the need for heavy amplification.
A True Musical Offering
During these events, the stage is shared by our musical family. You might see me performing alongside my brother Puttaraj on tabla, or perhaps watching my senior students take the stage for their own recitals. We often invite guest artists to play instruments like the swarmandal, adding layers to the soundscape. It is a day of deep respect, starting with a prayer to Saraswati Maa, followed by raags that are chosen for their meditative and uplifting qualities.
Why This Matters
If you are planning an event that requires a deeply respectful, culturally rich atmosphere, this is the vibe we bring. Whether it is for a spiritual gathering, a corporate cultural day, or a private chamber concert, we approach every performance with the same humility we bring to our Gurupoornima baithaks in Bengaluru.
