Our Learning Programs and Philosophy
We offer a range of electives where curiosity guides the way, inviting both children and adults to explore, learn, and grow together in our open-air Jayanagar studio.
Our core belief is that the journey and joy of learning are more important than the result itself. We focus on the process, not just the product.
There are no age criteria to enroll in an elective at Svadhyaya. We are built on the idea of a mixed-age group learning environment where everyone can participate.
Our programs cover Art, Music, and Movement because we believe these are the most effective ways for both children and adults to discover and develop their creative skills.
We are now open for registrations in our various electives. You can explore clay, pottery, bouldering, natural colors, yoga, Kalaripayattu, and more.
About About Our Programs
Our electives are designed to prioritize the journey of exploration over perfect technique, whether you are trying your hand at pottery or learning Kalaripayattu. We operate on a mixed-age model, so you will find yourself learning, practicing, and solving problems alongside others, regardless of whether you are an adult or a child.
At Svadhyaya, we view learning as a dialogue rather than a series of instructions. Our rooftop space in Jayanagar is intentionally designed to be a peaceful, plant-filled environment where the pressure to perform is replaced by the joy of discovery.
Our Approach
We believe that age should not be a barrier to curiosity. Whether you are an adult looking for a creative outlet or a parent seeking a supportive environment for your child, our programs are built to accommodate mixed-age cohorts. We focus on process-based learning, which means we encourage you to ask questions, experiment, and sometimes even make mistakes.
What You Can Join
Our electives are divided into categories that cater to different interests:
- Classical Arts: Training in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music (vocals, flute, mridangam), and more, led by lineage-trained practitioners.
- Movement & Strength: Kalaripayattu classes that focus on body control, animal postures, and functional strength for all ages.
- Maker Space & Pottery: Access to our studio for clay modeling, pottery wheel usage, and sustainable art practices.
A Different Way to Learn
We don't believe in rigid, school-like structures. Our classes are kept small, typically with 4 to 8 students, to ensure that every participant receives personal attention. If you are new to us, we recommend joining for a month to see how our rhythm fits into your life. Whether you are coming for the pottery wheel or the martial arts practice, you are walking in as a pathfinder ready to learn alongside a community.
