Our Open-Air Rooftop Studio
An airy, plant-filled rooftop in Jayanagar designed for messy art, music, and movement. We believe learning happens best when you can feel the breeze and get your hands dirty.
A wide view of our rooftop space during a community gathering. We use natural mats and have plenty of open floor for activities, all under a covered roof that lets in the light and air.

An overhead view of an art session in progress. Our large work tables and open layout allow for collaborative projects and give everyone enough space to spread out and create.

A quick tour of our movement and bouldering facilities. We designed this area to be a safe and engaging environment for both kids and adults to challenge themselves physically.
Are they testing the equipment or just enjoying themselves? At Svadhyaya, we believe work and play are one and the same. Our space is built for both.
About Our Open-Air Rooftop Studio
This is not a classroom with rows of desks. Our rooftop layout is intentionally open and adaptable, which means you might walk in to find a pottery wheel at one end and a Kalaripayattu practice happening just a few feet away. We keep it this way so that different age groups and interests can occupy the same space without feeling isolated.
When we built this space, we wanted to move away from the traditional, structured environment that usually keeps kids and adults in separate boxes. Our Jayanagar rooftop functions as a shared studio where a six-year-old might be experimenting with clay while an adult practices violin nearby.
The flooring is tiled to accommodate dance and martial arts, with dhurries and mats always ready for comfortable baithak-style music sessions or quiet reading. We do not use air conditioning, relying instead on the natural cross-ventilation of the building, which keeps the space breezy and connected to the outdoors.
You will find a dedicated movement corner featuring an adjustable bouldering wall, ropes, and tire swings, designed to encourage physical confidence rather than strict athletic performance. For our makers, the central tables are sized to accommodate large collaborative art projects or multiple independent pottery stations. We keep basic tools, wheels, and kilns accessible for our members, aiming for a setup where you can walk in, set up, and get straight to the work you love.
We believe that having people of different generations in the same physical space changes how we learn. Children see adults struggling with and learning new skills, and adults get to witness the unfiltered curiosity of children. This dynamic is built into the architecture of our studio, making it a place where you are just as likely to engage in a conversation about sustainable art practices as you are to focus on your own creative practice.
