Theatre Workshops and Cultural Research

My studio in JP Nagar is where stories take shape, whether we're diving into theatre techniques, choreography, or deep-diving into our folk heritage.

Conducting a two day workshop on 'Choreography and embodying movement techniques in theatre' for diploma students at Vijaynagar Bhimba. It's fulfilling to share my experience with the next generation of theatre artists.

Presenting my paper at the International Festival on Indian Dance. The response was overwhelming, and it was a fantastic experience to share my research on a national platform.

The poster for 'AVATARANA', a witty theatrical retelling of the story of Natya, performed at my own Kappanna Angala. Hosting such scholarly and artistic performances is a key part of my mission.

An invitation to 'The Cosmic Dancer', a symposium I organized with renowned dance scholars Dr. V.R. Devika and Dr. Vidya Rao. Creating platforms for sharing knowledge is very important to me.

A glimpse from a Nattuvanga workshop I hosted. It's a joy to see students deeply engaged in learning the timeless rhythms and nuances of taala.

Introducing 'Insieme Arti', a digital journal for performing arts that I helped launch. This platform is a repository for scholars and researchers to publish their work.

A moment from my presentation at the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. Sharing the stage with fellow scholars and demonstrating folk dance forms was an honor.

About this collection

When I lead a movement or theatre workshop, I don’t just teach steps. We focus on the why—why a specific rhythm in Nattuvanga matters or how to embody a character from our folk traditions. My studio, Kappanna Angala, is designed to be a space where you can get your hands dirty with the actual craft, rather than just observing it.

Learning Through Doing

I believe the best way to understand our cultural roots is to engage with them physically and intellectually. Whether it is a two-day deep dive into choreography for theatre diploma students or a symposium on 'The Cosmic Dancer', the aim is always the same: to strip away the distance between the audience and the art form.

What You Can Expect

  • Nattuvanga & Rhythm: We don't just learn beats; we learn the taal that governs the movement. These sessions are about internalizing the rhythm.
  • Choreography Workshops: I guide you through the process of taking a story and translating it into movement. It is raw, often messy, and incredibly rewarding.
  • Symposiums & Discourse: I host events like 'The Cosmic Dancer' where scholars and practitioners come together. This is where we discuss, question, and expand the boundaries of our dance heritage.

Why Kappanna Angala?

It is a home for stories, not a sterile classroom. We sit on the floor, we use traditional props, and we focus on the nuances of performance. If you are looking to refine your craft, publish research in my digital journal 'Insieme Arti', or simply want to understand the history behind a dance form, this is the place to be.

If you have a specific topic you want to explore—be it folk dance history, acting techniques, or movement studies—reach out and let’s discuss how we can work together.

I see my studio as a space for continuous learning, not just performance. When I'm not on stage acting, I’m right here, researching, writing, or teaching artists the rhythms I’ve spent my life studying.
