Behind the Scenes & Workshops
Art is not just the final performance on stage. It is the years of repetition, the discipline of the studio, and the discovery of rhythm. Here is a glimpse into how I train and the process behind my work.
A glimpse into a choreography session with my students. The studio is where we find the antidote to all of life's challenges. Indulging in what you love, for me, is the ultimate medicine.
A rehearsal in our studio space. The interdependence of dance and live music is what makes the performance complete. Here, I am working on a piece with the talented tabla artist Kedarnath Havaldar.
This video shows the conclusion of a month-long, 72-hour Kathak mandala (intensive workshop). The session ended with a special tabla workshop for dancers, emphasizing the deep connection between movement and rhythm.
Our super strong soldiers. This is my team of dedicated dancers, whose hard work and talent are the backbone of every production we create. Their strength and grace on stage are a result of countless hours of practice.
A silhouette of our dancers during a performance. I often use lighting to create powerful visual effects, highlighting the form and unity of the ensemble.
My students in a moment of focused intensity on stage. Training them is not just about teaching steps, but about cultivating discipline, expression, and a deep love for the art form.
The vibrant energy of my dancers on stage. Their synchronization and collective spirit are what bring my choreographic visions to life.
About Behind the Scenes & Workshops
My studio approach is simple: I keep a mirror and a dustbin. The mirror shows me what is off, and the dustbin holds what isn't working, helping me discard the ego and refine the craft. This practice of constant correction is what I share with my students in every workshop, whether we are breaking down a complex rhythmic cycle or perfecting a single step.
In my workshops, we do not just learn steps; we explore the soul of the dance. I conduct intensive 'Mandalas', such as my 72-hour deep-dive programs, where we connect Kathak movements to the nuances of Carnatic and Hindustani music. It is an exercise in discipline, focusing on 'Tala' (rhythm) and 'Raga' (melody). I often bring in experts like tabla artist Kedarnath Havaldar because I believe dance and music are interdependent. When you train here, you are not just learning to move; you are learning to listen to the rhythm, understand the shastras, and express yourself with clarity. My goal is to help you find the 'Rasa', that surreal bliss, in your own practice. Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the basics or a performer seeking to deepen your 'Abhinaya', the studio is where we strip away the noise. Think about it. Are you looking to merely learn steps, or to understand the art behind them? Visit my Jayanagar studio to find out.
