About Collaborative Performances & Events
When we stage a production like 'Uthara,' we aren't just performing; we are actively merging Mohiniyattam with Hindustani music to explore new creative territories. It is in these moments of synergy that the dance truly comes alive, moving beyond standard repertoire into something that feels both fresh and deeply traditional.
Our practice, or sadhana, thrives when we step out of isolation and create together. Whether we are hosting a guest maestro like Vijayalakshmi at our Bangalore kalari or experimenting with live musicians, our goal is to foster an environment where art is a shared experience rather than a solitary one.
Why We Collaborate
We believe that Mohiniyattam has a language that transcends strict boundaries. By inviting diverse perspectives—from technical lighting designers to vocalists trained in Carnatic or Hindustani traditions—we learn to see our own dance form with new eyes. These collaborative events serve two purposes: they allow us to present authentic, high-quality productions to our audience, and they create immersive workshops for our students.
The 'Anubhavam' Approach
Our 'Anubhavam' series is the cornerstone of this philosophy. We bring in legends of the craft not for dry lectures, but for intimate sessions where students can observe the abhinaya (emotive expression) up close. It is a rare chance to ask questions, observe the subtle hand gestures of a master, and understand the mythological context behind a krithi.
Join Our Circle
These performances and workshops are open to anyone who feels drawn to the arts. You do not need to be a professional dancer to join our experimental jams or attend an art talk. We are always looking for more rasikas (art lovers) to join our family, share in the music, and witness the energy that happens when we simply let the dance take over.
