A look into my journey as a movement artist and educator, from conducting specialized workshops to receiving recognition for community work in the arts.

I was invited to conduct a body conditioning workshop and perform at a residential Shibira in Mysuru, organized by the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy.

I was honored to receive the Social Woman Entrepreneur Award from the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) for my work in the arts.

About Workshops & Credentials

When I lead a workshop, whether it is at a residential Shibira or a private masterclass, I do not just teach steps. I share the anatomy behind the movement. It is about helping students understand why a posture works or how to prevent an injury, so the art form becomes something they can sustain for years, not just during class hours.

My approach to workshops is rooted in the belief that movement should be a sustainable, joyful practice. Over the years, I have been honored to conduct sessions for institutions like the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy, where we focus on bridging the gap between classical theory and functional application.

Why My Workshops Differ

I treat workshops as knowledge-transfer sessions. Whether we are exploring the technical nuances of Bharatanatyam, the intricate bols of Kathak, or the body conditioning required for both, the goal is always the same: to give you tools you can use immediately.

  • Anatomy-First Learning: We look at muscle groups and alignment before we look at aesthetics. If you understand how your body produces power, your dance becomes effortless.
  • Artistic Integration: I often bring in multidisciplinary elements, drawing from my experience in theatre and martial arts, as seen in projects like 'VISHPALA'. This helps students think about their performance as a holistic experience rather than just a sequence of moves.

Recognition and Responsibility

Being recognized with the Social Woman Entrepreneur Award by the FKCCI was a humbling experience, but for me, it serves as a reminder of the responsibility I hold as a teacher. It confirms that the work we do—at the studio in Rustam Bagh Layout or in community spaces—is making a tangible impact on how people perceive and practice movement arts.

If you are an institution looking for a guest faculty member, or a group of dancers seeking to improve your practice through an intensive, I offer tailored modules that prioritize individual feedback and long-term health over short-term results.

I am Chitra. For me, dance is a lineage passed down from my Guru, and I carry that responsibility into every workshop I facilitate. I combine my training in classical forms with a deep interest in body science, creating spaces where traditional art meets modern pedagogical needs.
