Heritage Restoration and Adaptive Reuse Projects
Revitalizing historic properties by marrying structural conservation with modern functionality, ensuring every space honors its past while breathing new life into the present.

About Heritage Restoration & Adaptive Reuse
When restoring heritage structures, we avoid the trap of over-modernizing with harsh synthetic materials. Instead, we prioritize the integrity of the original masonry by using authentic lime-surkhi plaster, which allows century-old walls to regulate moisture naturally and prevents the structural fatigue so often caused by modern cement applications.
Heritage restoration is more than fixing cracked walls or replacing old tiles; it is an act of translation. When we undertake adaptive reuse projects, such as the Rhodesia House in Dharmaj, our goal is to retain the spirit of the space while enabling it to function in a contemporary context. We begin with a deep structural assessment, identifying the load-bearing elements that defined the home's original character. Our team specializes in traditional waterproofing, crack stitching, and the careful re-polishing of vintage Burma teak, ensuring that the structural bones of the building are reinforced rather than replaced.
We believe that modern life can coexist with historical layouts. Through subtle modifications—like integrating discreet plumbing and electrical pathways—we ensure that your home remains a sanctuary. We treat every project as a unique narrative, whether it is a haveli in Gujarat or a colonial-era bungalow. By working with local craftspeople who understand traditional techniques, we ensure that the restoration process is both sustainable and respectful of the local architectural lexicon. Our approach transforms tired, neglected structures into vibrant, functional spaces that serve the community and honor their heritage.
Saka Studio
I'm the lead at Saka Studio, and for me, restoration is a quiet conversation with time. We treat every crack and weathered beam as a chapter in a story, carefully strengthening the structure while ensuring the home remains a living, breathing part of its landscape.
