Heritage Restoration and Adaptive Reuse
We balance historical integrity with modern functionality, breathing new life into venerable structures while respecting the stories etched into their walls.
The restored front porch, nestled amongst lush greenery. We brought back the original charm of the decorative railings and pillars, creating an inviting entrance that honors the building's century-old heritage.
The restored cobblestone driveway leading up to the heritage structure. The landscaping and exterior restoration work together to create a cohesive and stately approach to the property.
A view of the extended pavilion and courtyard area. This new addition was designed to complement the original structure, providing a modern functional space while respecting the architectural language of the past.
A black and white photograph capturing the timeless quality of the restored architecture. The clean lines of the pavilion and the aged cobblestone driveway create a resilient design that transcends generations.

Sunlight streams across the restored veranda, illuminating the beautiful tile floor and the exposed beam ceiling. This is a space designed for quiet contemplation, connecting the interior with the surrounding nature.
A quiet corner in the living area, where restored antique furniture sits atop the original mosaic floor. We seamlessly integrated modern comforts while maintaining the historical integrity of the space.
The main hall, post-restoration, is a testament to adaptive reuse. The space is configured for modern living with contemporary furniture, all under the original high ceilings and within the building's historic footprint.
A sitting area featuring a mix of inherited and modern furniture. The high ceilings with circular windows, a unique feature of the building, have been restored to fill the space with natural light.

About A Grand Revival: Restored Spaces
Restoring a century-old edifice requires more than just simple repair, it demands a delicate, surgical approach. We begin by identifying hidden structural complications, such as termite-damaged rafters or load-bearing cracks, and addressing them using traditional joinery and stitching techniques. Only after the structural integrity is secured do we integrate modern climate control systems, carefully hidden behind original joinery to preserve the historical aesthetic.
Heritage restoration is a labour of love for us. Old buildings are not just structures, they are living stories full of memories. We believe in caring for them the way one would care for a sacred forest, making sure to preserve what matters and tread lightly.
Our Process of Conservation
Documentation and Assessment: Every project begins with meticulous on-site measurement. We conduct a historical mapping of flooring, arches, and moldings to ensure accurate reproduction. We coordinate with structural engineers to perform health checks, identifying issues in stone walls and timber roofs before a single brick is moved.
Adaptive Reuse Strategy: Our goal is to configure internal floor plans to modern standards while retaining the original soul of the structure. This often involves innovative MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) integration, where we design discreet routes for conduits and HVAC units, hiding modern comforts behind false ceilings or existing architectural moldings.
Material Stewardship: We prioritize the reuse of salvaged materials. When we dismantle a false ceiling, that solid wood is often cleaned, treated, and repurposed to create new doors or window frames. We match timber grain for roof repairs and meticulously refurbish original China Mosaic floors, ensuring seamless inserts of new chips to maintain the patterns of the past.
Whether restoring a load-bearing stone masonry wall in Mumbai or reviving a teak roof in Lonavala, our focus remains on honouring the original craftsmanship while ensuring the building serves its occupants for another century.
