Welcome to our quiet corner in Pali Hill where we swap clay for paper. Discover the rhythm of stitching and binding your own journals, sketchbooks, and albums from scratch.

Here I am with book structure artist Nitika Mirchandani, talking about our popular Long-Stitch binding workshop. We love seeing what people create, like the photographer mom who made a photo album for her daughter's memories. It’s about making something with a purpose.

A snapshot from our Coptic binding workshop. The table is full of colorful papers, tools, and works-in-progress. It’s a space of focused creativity where participants learn to make their own journals and sketchbooks using this beautiful, ancient technique.

This is what a book structure workshop looks like in action. You can see everyone focused on their projects, learning the long-stitch binding technique to create their own custom albums. The end results are always so personal and beautifully crafted.

A close-up look at a finished album made with the long-stitch binding technique. The exposed stitching on the spine is a beautiful design element, and the colorful pages inside are ready to be filled with photos, sketches, or stories.

This is the Coptic binding, a technique that allows a book to open completely flat, making it perfect for a sketchbook or journal. The exposed chain stitch on the spine is not just functional but also creates a beautiful rhythmic pattern.

Announcing another book structure workshop with Nitika. This time, we explored the exposed stitch binding, which is one of my personal favorites because of the lovely visual detail it adds to the spine. It’s a great way to make a book that is truly a work of art.

In this video, Nitika and I introduce the medieval long-stitch binding. It's a wonderful technique for creating a special album to store memories or a personal project. We provide all the materials, you just need to bring your ideas.

Our book-making courses journey through many unique forms that blend structure with storytelling. From accordion folds to intricate bindings, these workshops are perfect for artists, writers, and anyone curious about the art of the book.

The Flag Book is a movable book style that's so much fun to make and share. It's perfect for creating short visual stories with text and photos, like a travel journal or a menu for a special meal. This workshop is a great introduction to the world of book-making.

About Handmade Bookbinding Workshops

We do not just teach you to assemble a book; we guide you through traditional structures like Coptic and Long-Stitch binding. You will be working with professional bone folders, awls, and high-quality paper, turning raw materials into a finished journal that is entirely your own. It is quiet, it is precise, and it is deeply satisfying to see a stack of loose sheets become a cohesive object by the end of the session.
