Think of this as sketching, but with a needle and thread instead of pencils. Join me in Noida to transform simple fabric scraps and floss into textured, layered art.

This video shows me demonstrating thread and fabric art at a live workshop. You can see how I combine different fabric pieces and use stitching to draw the image of Kasturba Gandhi at her spinning wheel.

A glimpse into my 'Drawing with Thread' workshop experience at the Kiran Nadar Museum. I'm explaining my process of using fabric collage and stitching to build up an image, piece by piece.

This is a beautiful example of Kutch embroidery from Gujarat, showcased at the 'Threads of Kutch' exhibition. The intricate patterns and vibrant colors are a huge inspiration for my own thread art workshops.

My finished thread painting of Kasturba Gandhi, framed and ready to be displayed. This piece combines fabric collage, painting, and hand embroidery to create a textured portrait.

A fabric collage with the message 'Eat Insecticide Free Veggies'. I used different pieces of fabric and thread to create this playful image of a bug on a leaf, showing how art can carry a fun message.

More moments from the 'Drawing with Thread' workshop, showing the process from initial sketches to the final embroidered pieces. It's all about letting your creativity flow through the needle.

In this workshop, we practiced drawing with our non-dominant hand to loosen up before sketching with needle and thread. My final piece was a thread sketch of the security guard on duty at the museum.

About Thread & Fabric Art

You do not need to be an expert embroiderer to start here. In these sessions, we focus on fabric collage and thread sketching, letting you layer textures to build a portrait or a pattern. It is less about following a rigid embroidery design and more about how to 'draw' with your hand using the needle and scraps of cloth.

My workshops are designed to be messy, slow, and relaxing. I believe that art is a practice rather than a competition, which is why we spend time just getting comfortable with the materials. Whether you are working on a fabric collage or using stitching to bring a figure to life, the goal is to find your own style.

I often use projects like a fabric collage or a thread portrait of a person to show how we can build an image piece by piece. We experiment with using our non-dominant hand to sketch, which helps let go of the pressure to be perfect.

This is for anyone who is bored of their routine, kids and adults alike. Sab chalega (everyone is welcome), even if you have never held a needle before. My workshops take place in a home studio environment in Noida or at venues like the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. You get to take home your completed piece, and all the materials, from embroidery hoops to textured fabrics, are provided. It is all about finding that creative spark in the quiet moments of making something with your own hands.
