Pottery Courses and Workshops at Mitti
Whether you are touching clay for the first time or ready to master the wheel, there is a path here for you. Explore our courses designed to help you slow down and create.
Welcome to Mitti Pottery Classes. I've designed a journey for everyone, from absolute beginners to those looking to build a long-term practice with clay.
Our beginner's pottery course is the perfect starting point. In 10 sessions, you'll get a complete overview of ceramics, learning hand-building techniques and getting an introduction to the potter's wheel. Sign-ups are now open.
The Beginners course gives you a wonderful overview of the medium. You'll learn hand-building with coiling and slab work, get an introduction to the potter's wheel, and understand the basics of glazes and the pottery process.
If you dream of using the potter's wheel, this course is for you. The Beginners Wheel course focuses solely on learning to throw, from centering the clay to creating beautiful cylinders and bowls.
For students with some basic pottery skills, the Intermediate course is where you can start refining your technique. This level is perfect if you're ready to take the wheel ahead and work on more defined forms.
The Advance Level 1 course is for refining your skills further. Here, we tackle more complicated forms like big bowls, teapots, and sculptural pieces, working with larger amounts of clay.
In Advance Level 2, you work on pieces based on your specific skill requirements. This is where you truly start to develop your own style and work on a personal collection of ceramic art.
Our 3-month intensive pottery course takes you from the first wobbly bowl to creating with confidence. It covers everything from beginner basics to advanced techniques, giving you the skills to continue your journey independently.
The Glaze Application Workshop is a special deep dive into the world of color and finish. This 3-day workshop is designed to help you move from hoping for magic to glazing with intention.
Who is the glazing workshop for? It's for beginners who feel overwhelmed by glazing and for intermediate potters who want to gain more control over their results, especially with layering and application techniques.
About Our Courses & Workshops
Learning pottery is a journey, and at Mitti, we focus on the process rather than chasing a perfect, factory-made finish. Whether you are curious about a single hand-building session or want to commit to a 10-session foundational course, my goal is to help you feel the clay and build your confidence. Remember, bahut kacchi hogi toh aap usko bana nahi sakoge—if the clay is too raw, you cannot force it. You have to listen to the material, and I am here to guide you through that conversation.
At my studio in Khar West, I offer a variety of programs tailored to different skill levels and interests. For those starting out, the Beginners Foundation Course is a structured 10-session program that introduces you to hand-building techniques like coiling and slab work, alongside the basics of the potter's wheel. It is about building a connection with ceramics from the ground up.
If you have already spent time at the wheel and want to refine your technical abilities, my Intermediate and Advanced courses focus on complex forms like teapots, double-walled vessels, and larger sculptural pieces. These sessions are designed for students who want to develop their own style and work on cohesive collections.
For those interested specifically in the science and art of finishes, my intensive Glaze Application Workshop is a deep dive into surface decoration, glaze chemistry, and firing theory. It moves you from accidental results to intentional design.
A few practical things to keep in mind:
- Consistency is key. I allow up to 3 make-up sessions, but beyond that, there is a small fee.
- Firing is handled by our team, so you do not need to worry about the technical side of the kiln.
- All tools and clay are provided for your classes, just bring an apron and a willingness to get messy.
Whether you are here for a creative break or a serious study of ceramics, the vibe at Mitti is always about community, patience, and the joy of creating something with your own two hands.
