About Your First Spin: Beginner Pottery Courses

I keep my beginner sessions small because pottery is about finding your rhythm, not rushing through steps. Whether you are trying the wheel for the first time or learning hand-building basics like coiling, I am right there to guide your hands, correct your posture, and help you turn that first wobbly lump of clay into something you will actually want to use at home.

At Clay Explore, we believe pottery is less about perfection and more about the quiet joy of making. If you have ever felt the urge to trade screen time for tactile work, this is where you start. Our beginner programs are structured to take away the intimidation factor, whether you are a complete novice or looking to refine your form.

What You Will Experience

When you join a session, we start with the fundamentals—wedging, centering on the wheel, and learning to control the clay’s centrifugal force. Do not worry if your first bowl looks a bit organic; that is part of the process. I guide you through the entire lifecycle of a piece, from a raw lump to the final glazing and firing stages.

Choose Your Path

  • One-Day Trial: Perfect if you are just curious. You get two hours to get messy, experiment with the wheel and hand-building, and we fire two of your pieces.
  • Beginner Course: If you are serious about learning, our 5-week course (10 sessions) deepens your craft. You will master cylinder production, trimming bases, and understanding the chemistry of glazes.

Everything is provided—aprons, professional tools, and clay. Our Prabhadevi studio is a space to disconnect from the city rush. You are not just learning a skill; you are engaging in a slow, meditative practice. By the time your finished ceramics come out of the kiln (usually in about 3 weeks), you will have tangible art for your home. Whether you are coming solo or with friends, bring an open mind and prepare to get a little clay on your clothes.
