Real Home Stories: Designing Spaces with Soul
A house is more than just a structure; it is a living, breathing part of your life. See how families have turned their stories into homes that truly feel like them.
Six years after its completion, I revisited the Gifty Residence to see how the home has aged. The owners share how their dream of a unique, stone-built house has become a place of peace and comfort for their family, proving that good design stands the test of time.
"We wanted the architecture of Hampi, but the soul of Malenadu." This was the beautiful brief from Dr. Rehamath Tarikere 20 years ago. In this conversation, he shares how we translated this vision into a home that blends two distinct cultural aesthetics.
For the Raghavendra residence, the client had three clear needs: a puja space, a library for their vast book collection, and a welcoming area for guests. They share how the first sketch I drew was "love at first sight" and how the final design brought their vision to life.
"It was beyond our expectations." The owners of the Gopal Residence wanted a home that felt spacious and creative on a small corner site. Here, they talk about how the final outcome delivered a sense of comfort and space that they didn't think was possible.
The owner of the Shashidhar Residence shares his favorite spots in his 'Arivu' home. He speaks about the joy he finds in the jali screen, the terrace, and the indoor swing, highlighting how small, thoughtful details contribute to the overall experience of a home.
"There is a sense of tranquility in this house." The owner of the Manjunath Residence reflects on how the design has surpassed her expectations. It's a joy to hear that the space we created together has become a source of calm and happiness.
A client shares his thoughts on the construction process, noting that my team's frequent site visits and unique concepts made a significant difference. For me, being hands-on and ensuring every detail is right is a crucial part of the journey.
About Client Stories: Homes with Soul
Every home I design starts with a conversation, not a catalog. Whether you need a quiet sanctuary for your book collection or a layout that blends the Hampi architecture you admire with the Malenadu roots you cherish, I translate those personal feelings into blueprints. You will see that reflected in how we use natural light and local stones, ensuring the house works for you—not just on day one, but years down the line.
Architecture as a Story
When I look back at projects like the Rehmat Tarikere residence, built two decades ago, or the Gifty residence, which still offers the same peace of mind six years later, I am reminded that a home should not fight the land. It should listen to it.
My 'Arivu' approach is about engaging your senses. It is about how the sunlight hits an old rock wall in the morning, the breeze carrying the scent of terracotta, or the way a simple swing becomes the center of family conversations. These are not decorative choices; they are functional decisions made to improve how you live.
What Goes Into Your Home
My design process is hands-on. I believe in the craft of building as much as the concept:
- Listening First: We start by identifying what you need. Is it a library for your vast collection? A puja space? A layout that encourages guests to sit and talk?
- Material Honesty: We use natural materials like Kota stone, exposed brick, and lime plaster. These materials breathe, age beautifully, and are sustainable.
- Technical Precision: Whether it is installing an indoor skylight or building custom joinery for smart storage, I personally supervise the site to ensure the final result matches the initial sketch.
Why Clients Choose This Process
Many of my clients come to me because they want something different than the standard square boxes. They want a space that reflects their journey. My role is to bridge the gap between your aspiration and the physical reality, creating a home that feels like a natural extension of who you are.
