About Gurbani Kirtan: A Spiritual Journey

We don't just teach the words; we focus on the foundational Raag and Taal that give Gurbani Kirtan its spiritual depth. Whether you are starting with Sargam or mastering complex compositions, our group sessions combine vocal training with live Tabla accompaniment to ensure you learn how to perform with precision and devotion.

At Khalsa Music Academy, we approach Gurbani Kirtan as a structured discipline rooted in Indian classical tradition. We believe that authentic Kirtan requires an understanding of the specific Raag, the precise Taal, and the correct pronunciation of the Shabad.

Our Approach to Learning

Every student begins with foundational exercises. We focus on Sargam practice techniques, which build the necessary pitch accuracy and voice control. As you advance, we introduce bandish, taan, and alaap to bring emotional depth to your performance.

The Classroom Experience

Our training happens in a traditional Baithak style, creating an environment focused on learning and respect. We prioritize group learning because music is a collaborative art. Having a live Tabla player in class is not just for accompaniment; it teaches our students to internalize rhythm and stay in sync with the laya (tempo), which is essential for any performer.

Moving to the Stage

We do not just teach within the four walls of a classroom. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for actual performance. Whether it is a local Baithak, a classical concert, or a Gurpurab event, we encourage our students to build confidence by presenting their art. If you are learning for personal spiritual fulfillment or aiming for professional stage performance, we tailor the intensity of the training to your goals.
