About Indian Instrumental Music Classes
At Khalsa Music Academy, music isn’t just a hobby. It's a way to connect, like the feeling you get when you hear Thakur tum sarnayi aaya. Everything I teach is grounded in the basics: raag for melody and taal for rhythm. If you’re just starting out or picking up an old passion, I make sure these essentials are covered first.
What You Can Learn
- Percussion: My classes cover tabla from the ground up. I go through major tabla gharanas like Delhi and Punjab, and get into kaida, rela, tukra, paran, all that. Dhol is there too, for those who like energetic beats.
- String Instruments: If melody is your thing, you can learn sitar, dilruba, sarod, rabab, sarangi, or violin. We do sargam exercises, alankars, and play raags like Yaman and Bhairav. You'll also get hands-on with lehra and jugalbandi (duet) practice.
- Harmonium: I teach harmonium for solo or as backup, especially useful if you want to accompany vocals.
How We Roll
- Anyone can join, young or old. I've got both in-person classes in New Delhi and online options. Group riyaaz (practice) is a big part, so you get used to playing with others, not just alone.
- Special focus on Gurbani Sangeet – I help with shabad kirtan, the right way of singing and playing these sacred pieces.
From Class to Stage
It’s not just about lessons. I set up student concerts, so you get used to performing, solo or in a group. That moment on stage? Pure bliss.

My Story
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh! At Khalsa Music Academy, music is our lifeblood, straight from Guru Nanak’s days, you know? We’re more like a family than a school, with kids and elders learning together. Seeing a child play tabla for the first time or students winning kirtan competitions, that’s our real prize. We teach music, sure, but mostly, we’re here to share love for it. Raag, taal, and a bit of heart – bas, yahi hai (that’s it).
