Beyond the traditional tabla, I love blending rhythms. From fusion gigs with jazz artists to high-energy percussion ensembles, let’s bring a unique beat to your event.

A fun moment from a percussion ensemble performance. Here we are playing a famous chakradhar composed by Abbaji, Ustad Alla Rakha, with each of us on different instruments like djembe, drums, and tabla.

A fusion piece called 'Sweet Sixteen' performed at the iconic Prithvi Theatre. This composition blends Indian rhythms with Western drum patterns, showcasing my work as a versatile percussionist.

A continuation of our percussion jam, this time featuring some soloing in an odd time signature. Fusion music allows for improvisation and the exploration of complex rhythmic phrasing.

The great Nitin Shankar ji leading his percussion ensemble at the Ustad Alla Rakha Sangeet Sammelan. I am on the left, playing tabla as part of this powerful rhythmic story.

A sound check with the 'Ravi Chary Crossing' band. This clip shows the blend of sitar, bass, drums, keys, and tabla, creating a modern jazz fusion sound.

With the great rhythm arranger Nitin Shankar Dada and the team after our "Love you Pancham" concert, a tribute to the legendary R.D. Burman.

The full "Family of Percussions" team. It's always a joy to perform with these talented brothers in rhythm.

Backstage at Mumbai Drum Day with Nitin Shankar Dada and Gino Banks sir. Being part of events that celebrate rhythm is always exciting.

The full team of percussionists at Mumbai Drum Day. A wonderful gathering of artists passionate about drums, tabla, cajon, and more.

More happy moments from Mumbai Drum Day. The energy and camaraderie at such events are incredible.

About Fusion & Percussion Ensembles

When I perform in a fusion ensemble, I don't just stick to the tabla. I mix it up with the djembe, cajon, and darbuka to match the mood of your event. Whether you need a rhythmic backdrop for a DJ, a smooth lounge set for a corporate evening, or a high-energy jam, I tailor the sound to the space.

My approach to fusion is simple. It is about keeping the soul of Indian rhythm alive while finding new conversations with other instruments. Whether I am jamming with a jazz band like 'Ravi Chary Crossing' or part of a large percussion ensemble led by Nitin Shankar Dada, the goal remains the same: musical synergy.

Why Fusion Matters

Fusion music is about boundaries, or rather, the lack of them. It allows me to take the technical precision of the Punjab Gharana and apply it to global instruments. If your event calls for a hybrid sound, I can seamlessly blend:

  • Tabla & World Percussion: Moving between tabla, djembe, congo, surdo, and darbuka based on what the song needs.
  • Collaborative Sets: I often work alongside DJs, keyboardists, and vocalists. I am used to coordinating setlists and cues in advance so the performance feels tight and professional.

Professionalism at the Venue

I believe the performance starts long before the first beat. When you book a fusion set, it includes a professional sound check where I work with the local audio team to optimize monitor mixing. I bring all necessary clip-on mics for the tabla, and for larger kits, I coordinate with the venue in advance to ensure the sound quality is top-notch.

Whether it is a performance at an iconic venue like the NMACC or an intimate private gathering, I make sure the rhythmic setup is taken care of, so you can focus on the music and your guests.

I’m Harmeet, and my life is lived in rhythm. While my heart stays rooted in the Punjab Gharana style I learned from Ustad Fazal Qureshi ji, I love finding the groove where classical tabla meets world percussion. Let’s create a sound that fits your moment perfectly.
