Music is a dialogue. Here are some moments from my journey, featuring the legends who have guided me and the fellow artists I am proud to call my brothers.

A blessed evening seeking Ganpati darshan at the home of Sivamani sir and Runa didi. It was a warm and divine gathering with many respected artists.

With my Guru ji, Ustad Fazal Qureshi ji. His guidance is the light on my musical path, and I am forever grateful for his teachings.

A moment of immense gratitude with the sitar legend, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan ji. To meet and receive blessings from such a master is a dream come true.

With the wonderful singer Kavita Seth ji. Her voice has a unique spiritual quality, and it was an honor to perform with her.

With the Godfather of Indian Jazz, the great Louiz Banks sir. His contributions to music are immeasurable, and it was an honor to meet him.

A group photo from the Ganpati celebrations at Sivamani sir's home. The musical family is a warm and supportive community.

Getting on the 'sam' (the first beat of the rhythmic cycle) with the boys. A candid, happy moment with my fellow musicians and friends.

A more formal group photo with my musical brothers. The bond we share makes the music we play even more special.

A snapshot from a recent recording session for a new song. I'm always excited to contribute my tabla to new musical projects in the studio.

About With Gurus, Legends & Fellow Artists

Getting on the 'sam' is about more than just timing; it is about deep listening. Whether I am in the studio with music directors or jamming at a baithak, my priority is finding that common rhythm with the artist, ensuring my tabla supports their melody without ever overpowering it.

Collaboration in music is a two-way street. When I perform with a sitar player or a vocalist, my role is to breathe life into the composition, not just keep time. Trained in the Punjab Gharana style, I focus on the intricate interplay of bols (rhythmic syllables), but I am equally comfortable shifting gears to fit a modern fusion track or a high-energy DJ set.

The Art of the Jam

I do not see collaboration as just playing along. It is about understanding the mood of the room and the intent of the artist. When I work with fusion collectives or sitar legends, the process starts with a shared understanding of the track's structure. We discuss the 'nazaakat' (delicacy) required for classical pieces versus the raw energy needed for commercial sets.

Studio vs Stage

Studio sessions, like those I have done for film recordings, demand precision and a clean sound. You have to be meticulous with the microphone placement and the clarity of every note. Live performances, however, are about connecting with the audience and the other musicians on stage. The unpredictability of a live concert is where the magic happens, and that is where the bond with fellow artists becomes my biggest strength.
