I blend the technical precision of my Ajrara Gharana roots with contemporary soundscapes, creating a bridge between traditional Indian rhythm and modern fusion.

A moment from an outdoor fusion concert, playing alongside a guitarist under a decorated tree. This performance blended Indian percussion with Western acoustic sounds in a natural, artistic setting.

About Fusion & World Music Collaborations

When I perform fusion, the setup is different from my traditional sit-down solos. We use hybrid percussion and require a full PA system, so it is vital we discuss the sound requirements of your venue early on. This ensures the nuances of the tabla are not lost in the mix, allowing the rhythm to truly connect with the audience.

My approach to fusion is about finding the 'sam'—the point of arrival where different musical worlds meet. As part of my band, Mausiqaar, I work with vocalists, guitarists, and keyboard players to create a sound that blends Sufi rock, Bollywood fusion, and Western elements without losing the classical soul of the instrument.

The Fusion Setup

Unlike a traditional Baithak style performance, these shows are dynamic. My fusion sets typically involve a 4 to 5-piece ensemble. Because we mix acoustic tabla with electric instruments, the technical rider is specific. I need the client to provide a reliable PA system, stage monitors, and amplifiers. I also require a green room for the band members. If you are hosting a high-energy corporate dinner or a large festival, this is the format that delivers the most impact.

Why Collaborate?

I believe music should evolve. I have toured with international artists and played in diverse settings, from intimate club gigs to large outdoor festivals. Whether it is a Jugalbandi style interplay or a full band production, the goal remains the same: clarity and emotion. I do not just play for the crowd; I play to keep the tradition alive while pushing the boundaries of what the tabla can do. If you have a specific vibe or theme for your event, let me know, and we can tailor the ensemble to suit the setting.

I am the 8th generation of the Kirana Gharana, but I believe music must breathe in the present. Whether I am playing with my band Mausiqaar or joining a fusion project, I aim to keep the tabla’s soul intact even when mixed with western guitars and keys.
