Tabla Accompaniment for Gurbani Kirtan
I offer my tabla seva with deep respect, providing a steady, devotional rhythm that supports the shabad and enhances the Kirtan experience.
Performing Kirtan Hazri at Gurdwara Jamni Sahib with Hazoori Ragi Bhai Nirbhai Singh ji from Sri Darbar Sahib. It is a profound honor to accompany the divine shabads.
Blessed moments with Bhai Saroop Singh Ji and Bhai Shubhdeep Singh Ji, Hazuri Ragis of Sri Harimandar Sahib. Their divine presence and Gurbani recitation are pure and peaceful.
In the company of esteemed Ragis. These moments of devotion and music are deeply inspiring and grounding for me as an artist and as a Sikh.
Another group photo with the respected Hazuri Ragis. The opportunity to be in their presence is a blessing I am very grateful for.
A cherished photo. The humility and grace of these spiritual musicians are a great lesson for everyone.
A still from the Kirtan Hazri at Gurdwara Jamni Sahib. My role here is to provide a steady, devotional rhythm that supports the Gurbani being sung.
About Devotional & Gurbani Kirtan
When I accompany a Kirtan, my role is to blend into the background, providing a rhythm that supports the Ragi without overpowering the shabad. I use a professional-grade set that ensures the tonal quality is crisp yet sensitive to the sacred environment. If you are planning a program, let’s discuss the specific Ragis you have invited and the rhythm flow so I can be perfectly aligned with their style.
For me, playing tabla for Gurbani Kirtan is less about performance and more about devotion. My job is to hold the pulse that supports the Ragi’s voice, ensuring that the rhythm enhances the shabad rather than drawing attention to the player.
I have been blessed to share the stage with Hazoori Ragis of Sri Harimandar Sahib, and I understand the discipline required in these settings. Whether it is an intimate gathering at home or a larger program at a Gurudwara, I adjust my volume and dynamics to suit the acoustic environment.
Technically, I am mindful of the space. I use clip-on microphones that capture the tonal depth of the tabla without cluttering the altar area. I also ensure that my presence is respectful of the decorum required during the recitation. If you are coordinating with a team of Ragis, I am happy to discuss the setlist and the required rhythmic patterns beforehand. My goal is to ensure the music flows seamlessly, allowing the listeners to connect purely with the Gurbani.
Harmeet Singh
I am Harmeet, and I view my tabla playing as a form of devotion. It is a true privilege to sit alongside Ragis and support the Gurbani with rhythm that respects the sacred space.
