About Hindustani Classical Accompaniment
My preparation for a classical concert begins well before I step on stage. I ensure my dayan and bayan are tuned precisely to the main artist's scale, and we utilize a 45-minute sound check to balance the acoustic resonance of the tabla against the lead instrument. Whether it is a vocal recital or a sitar jugalbandi, I provide the subtle rhythmic foundation that allows the raga to unfold naturally, adapting instantly to the lead artist's tempo and mood.
In the world of Hindustani classical music, the tabla is not just a timekeeper. It is a partner in the melodic journey. My approach to accompaniment is rooted in years of training in the Farrukhabad and Lucknow gharanas, which gives me the vocabulary to handle complex cycles like Matta Taal or Jhaptaal with ease, while maintaining the discipline required for traditional vocal music.
What to Expect
When we perform together, you are not just getting a percussionist; you are getting a musician who listens.
- Collaborative Mindset: I specialize in the art of the 'Jugalbandi.' I am comfortable with both scripted compositions and the spontaneous, improvised conversations that define a truly magical concert.
- Professional Logistics: Every booking includes one dedicated rehearsal session prior to the event, allowing us to align on the 'bols' and the flow of the performance.
- Instrument Readiness: I bring multiple instruments to account for scale changes, ensuring there is never a break in the musical energy.
Beyond the Concert Hall
While my heart is in classical concerts, my rhythmic training allows me to transition seamlessly into other forms. I have accompanied vocalists, sitar and sarod legends, and Kathak dancers across India and on international stages. Whether you are hosting an intimate baithak in a living room or a large-scale festival, the goal remains the same: to create a space where the raga can breathe. If you are looking for an accompanist who respects the silence as much as the sound, let us connect.

Music is a journey I am blessed to share with fellow artists. I find my purpose in the rhythmic dialogue between tabla and lead, whether that is a sitar legend or a promising vocalist. My goal is to make sure the music flows, honoring the tradition while bringing my own energy to the stage.
