About Hindustani Classical Accompaniment

My preparation for a classical concert begins well before I step on stage. I ensure my dayan and bayan are tuned precisely to the main artist's scale, and we utilize a 45-minute sound check to balance the acoustic resonance of the tabla against the lead instrument. Whether it is a vocal recital or a sitar jugalbandi, I provide the subtle rhythmic foundation that allows the raga to unfold naturally, adapting instantly to the lead artist's tempo and mood.
