Fletcher Matwork: The Foundation of Mindful Movement

My matwork classes aren't about mindless reps; they're about learning to breathe, move, and feel strong in your own skin. Whether you're a total beginner or a dancer looking to sharpen your form, this is where we build your foundation, one breath at a time.

A glimpse into the foundational movements of Fletcher Matwork 1. We focus on the well-planned transitions that lead into each piece, creating a seamless and intelligent flow.

A short flow combining some essential mat exercises like downward dog, the teaser, and swan. This is a great example of how we build strength and flexibility on the mat.

This is a simple progression to a plank, created for a magazine during the pandemic. It shows how we build strength from a foundational level, focusing on alignment and control.

To begin, begin. Sometimes the hardest part is just starting. Just unroll your mat and the rest will follow. This is the first step to building a consistent practice.

Finding my balance with a teaser pose by the sea. The mat can be anywhere, and the principles of core control and stability travel with you.

A throwback to a beautiful moment of practice in Sri Lanka. Pilates isn't confined to a studio; it's about finding your connection to movement wherever you are.

About this collection

You won't find loud music or aggressive counting here. In these sessions, I teach you the Fletcher Percussive Breathing technique—a rhythmic way to engage your deep core that feels entirely different from standard gym Pilates. It’s hands-on, specific, and designed to help you find alignment, even if you’ve never touched a Pilates mat before. We work in small batches so I can actually see you and correct your posture, ensuring you leave feeling taller, not just tired.

What makes Fletcher Matwork different?

If you have tried Pilates at a gym, you might be used to rapid-fire reps. Fletcher Pilates is different. My lineage comes from Ron Fletcher, who brought a dancer’s grace to Joseph Pilates' original work. We focus on 'Fletcher Percussive Breathing,' which uses rhythm to help you move from your core rather than just pushing through muscle fatigue.

Who are these classes for?

  • Beginners: If you have never moved on a mat before, this is the safest place to start. We focus on the basics of spinal alignment and pelvic control, not how many crunches you can do.
  • Desk Workers: If you spend your day hunched over a laptop, we focus on opening the chest and releasing the tight muscles around the neck and shoulders.
  • Dancers & Athletes: For those who want to refine their movement quality and improve their transitions.

What to expect in a session

I run these sessions in small batches, capped at 10 students, to make sure you get the attention you need. We use simple, effective props like the signature red braided Fletcher Towel to deepen stretches and assist with alignment.

We offer both in-studio sessions in Koramangala and Indiranagar, where you will experience hands-on adjustments on professional sprung floors. If you are joining from home, my virtual sessions are designed to work in small spaces using common household items, without losing that vital connection to the instructor.

Building a practice isn't about being perfect. It is about showing up. Whether you are in Bangalore or connecting via Zoom, I am here to help you understand how your body moves.

I started as a dancer, got injured, and eventually found my way to Fletcher Pilates in Arizona. Now, I’m back in Bangalore trying to help you feel at home in your body—not by making you smaller, but by helping you feel strong and aware, one session at a time.
