The Fletcher Pilates Method Explained
Forget standard workouts. Fletcher Pilates is an evolution of the original method, designed for fluid, rhythmic movement that makes your body feel like home again.
The birth of Percussive Breathing. This video explains how Ron Fletcher combined principles from Joseph Pilates and Martha Graham to create a unique, rhythmic breathing technique that is central to our practice.
"Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit." A foundational quote from Joseph Pilates, translated into Hindi and Kannada, because this practice is for everyone.
Joseph Pilates said this a century ago, and it's more relevant than ever. Proper breathing is the most important part of my classes, something I learned the value of firsthand.
A quick hello and a glimpse into the world of Fletcher Pilates. This practice is about finding joy and freedom in movement, and I'm so happy to share it.
About this collection
The core of this method is "Percussive Breathing." Unlike standard fitness breathing, this is a rhythmic technique that essentially acts as a support system for your spine. When you learn to time your breath with your movement, it changes how you hold yourself throughout the day. In my sessions, we don't just count reps; we practice this breathing to ensure you feel supported, strong, and genuinely connected to your core, whether you are a dancer or someone who spends ten hours a day at a desk.
What is the Fletcher Method?
Ron Fletcher was a student of both Joseph Pilates and the legendary dancer Martha Graham. He took the structure of traditional Pilates and infused it with the grace, flow, and rhythmic nuance of dance. This isn't about grinding through sets until you're exhausted. It is about understanding the mechanics of your own body.
Why it feels different
Most people come to me because they want to fix their posture or relieve chronic stiffness. You’ll notice in my classes that we prioritize the spine and pelvic alignment above everything else. We use props like the Fletcher Towel and Magic Circle not to make the workout 'harder,' but to provide tactile feedback so you can actually feel the muscles we are engaging. If you are in Bangalore, we usually work in small groups at studios in Koramangala and Indiranagar, which allows me to give you hands-on corrections rather than just shouting instructions from the front of the room.
Is this for you?
I work with dancers, yoga teachers, and office workers who are tired of generic workouts that don't address their specific tightness. You don't need to be fit or flexible to start. If you want a practice that feels more like moving meditation than a gym grind, you are in the right place. We keep class sizes small—usually between 4 to 10 students—so I can actually see how you are moving and help you adjust. If you are just starting out, check out my mat classes; they are the best place to learn the foundations of breath and alignment.
