Q1

What does Pilates cost in Bengaluru?

Two classes a week at a Bengaluru studio come to about ₹8,000 a month on a mat, ₹10,000 on the reformer and ₹18,000 one to one. What you pay for is the teacher: how many people share her, and whether there's a machine under you. Free videos cost nothing, and a batch in your apartment's clubhouse costs a little less than a studio. Ask if GST is in a price: Pilateslab adds 18% on top, and the other studios don't say.

  1. Free to about ₹2,300 a month

    Videos and apps, at home

Blogilates on YouTube is free and Pilates Anytime is about ₹2,300 (US$24) a month, but neither corrects your form. For a teacher who watches you on camera, ask for a live online class: about ₹250 to ₹350 a session, AI estimate

  2. About ₹500 to ₹750 a class

A mat batch in your apartment's clubhouse

AI estimate, what each of you pays. A teacher runs a batch for you and your neighbours, about ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 a month each for two classes a week. Ask how many are in it, since she's watching the whole hall

  3. About ₹700 to ₹1,000 a class, on a month's plan

A mat class at a studio

A month's plan is about ₹8,000: 8 mat classes at Studio Oura, or 12 at SAMA, where the reformer is there when you want to move up. One class alone costs more. Ask if the mat class is Pilates or yoga

  4. About ₹1,000 to ₹1,350 a class, on a month's pack

A group class on the reformer

You get a machine each, with 3 to 6 sharing the teacher. A month's pack is ₹9,999 for 10 classes at Maison de Medusa, or ₹10,619 with GST for 8 at Pilateslab, so ask if GST is in the price. One class alone costs more

  5. About ₹800 to ₹3,000 a class

    A class at a physio-led studio

AI estimate. It's the spread across five physio-led studios, so one studio's price can sit anywhere in it. A physiotherapist checks you first and plans the work around what they find. Dr Pilates in Kalyan Nagar charges for that first assessment on top of the class price, so ask what it costs

  6. About ₹1,875 to ₹2,300 a session

    One to one

Every correction is yours, on the machines. The low end is ₹1,875 a session on Pilateslab's 8 pack before GST, ₹17,699 for the pack with tax, and ₹2,300 is one session alone at Maison de Medusa. A teacher at your home, working on a mat, is about ₹1,400 to ₹2,100 a session, travel included, AI estimate. Ask if travel is in a quote

Q2

Why does a mat class cost ₹700 and one to one ₹2,300?

You pay for how much of the teacher you get. In a mat class she teaches the whole room. On the reformer each of you has a machine, and because machines take room, only 3 to 6 of you share her. One to one, every correction is yours, and she plans the hour around your back, your knee or the months since your baby.

Up to five people in the room

Just you and the teacher

Works out to about ₹1,125 a class

Works out to about ₹1,875 a class

Pilateslab, Sahakarnagar: 50 minutes a class either way, 4 weeks to use the 8. From its own website. Both before 18% GST.

Q3

Do I actually need the machine, or is a mat fine?

A mat is fine to start, and at SAMA it costs half as much: a mat class takes 1 credit and a reformer class 2. A reformer helps when a move is too hard on the floor, because its springs take some of your weight.

A mat class

₹666 to ₹985 a class

A reformer class

₹1,000 to ₹1,332 a class

Floor work and a few props

A sprung carriage under you

The easiest to keep up at home

A machine each, 3 to 6 in the room

Each figure is a pack's price divided by its classes. Mat: packs of 10 to 12 classes at SAMA and Studio Oura. Reformer: a month's pack at Maison de Medusa and SAMA. Class sizes where studios say.

Q4

How often do I have to go, and can I try a class before buying a pack?

Buy the pack you'll finish, and try a class first. A month's pack runs out in four or five weeks, so if you go once a week you lose classes. Pilateslab's trial class is free, and Maison de Medusa's costs ₹999.

Q5

After a baby or an injury, is a normal Pilates class safe for me?

Somebody has to check you first, and a group class won't do that. After a baby, a physiotherapist can check the gap in your stomach wall with their hands.

Q6

Will Pilates fix my back, or only manage it?

Pilates helps, but it hasn't been shown to beat other exercise. Pick what you'll keep doing.

Q7

Is my Pilates teacher actually qualified, and how do I check before I pay?

We found no register of Pilates teachers in India, so ask which school gave the certificate, and check with that school. Then take the trial class and count how often the teacher corrects you.

Q8

Can a teacher come to my home or my apartment's clubhouse, and what does it cost?

Yes. A teacher at your home costs about ₹1,400 to ₹2,100 a session, travel included, our AI estimate, a little under a studio's one to one. A batch in your clubhouse costs each of you about ₹500 to ₹750 a class, also our AI estimate. Ask a home teacher whether travel is inside her quote.

Q9

I want to teach Pilates. Which course, and what does it get me?

Four teachers and studios in our records run a teacher training, from about 40 hours to 950. They don't all count hours the same way. At Dr Pilates in Kalyan Nagar, the course gets you the letter you need to sit Merrithew's own exam. It doesn't certify you by itself.

Before you pay, settle these six

  1. How many share your slot, and a machine each
  2. Who teaches it, and which school certified them
  3. How many minutes you're on a machine
  4. What one class costs with GST
  5. How long a pack lasts, and if you travel
  6. Who checks you first, and a trial class

Want us to find one?

Doing this yourself takes a week. You message ten Pilates teachers and studios, many don't reply to a number they don't know, the ones who do send packages that don't line up, and Instagram only shows each one's best day.

Tell us once instead. We come back with the Pilates teachers and studios who fit, each priced for your Pilates class, with their own past work. Only about 1 in 10 who apply get in, and every one is re-checked at least every six months. How we verify

Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for you. The Pilates teacher or studio pays mytribe a small fee when you book, and you pay them directly, at the same price as going to them yourself. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

The same chat answers questions about the Pilates class itself, like whether a quote is fair. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.
