Achieving a full split requires patience and the right drills. Here is how I use props and functional movement to safely open your hips.

The wall is your best friend when learning splits. This video shows an easy and effective way to use the wall to safely guide your body into a full side split, using gravity to your advantage.

This video demonstrates a dynamic entry into Samakonasana, the side split. We work on drills like this to build both the flexibility and the strength needed to control the movement into the full pose.

About Unlocking Splits & Hip Flexibility

Most people try to force their way into a split and end up with a strain. In my classes, I focus on active flexibility where we use the wall for support and engage specific muscles to guide the legs open. If you have tight hamstrings or stiffness in the hips, we start by fixing your lunge form before attempting any full splits.

Why Your Hips Feel Tight

Many of us carry physical stress in the hips. Whether you spend hours sitting at a desk in Gurgaon or you are an active athlete, the muscles around the pelvis often become stiff. Attempting to jump straight into Hanumanasana without a proper warm-up is a fast way to get injured. My approach is to move slowly. We work on the adductors and hamstrings separately, building the strength needed to hold the stretch safely.

How We Train

I treat every student differently because every body is different. In my sessions, we use props—walls, blocks, and straps—to provide the support your body needs to understand how to release tension. The wall, specifically, acts as an anchor that prevents your hips from shifting, allowing you to focus on the alignment of your front and back legs.

  • Active Flexibility: We don't just hold stretches. We use active engagement to tell your nervous system it is safe to increase your range of motion.
  • Step-by-Step Drills: We break the split down into half-splits and lunges before ever attempting the full pose.
  • Consistent Practice: Flexibility is not about one session. It is about the discipline of showing up for 12 sessions a month.
