My Artistic Vision
I do not just make art. I translate emotion into form. This is the journey of how I turn simple materials like upcycled paper into stories that have soul and depth.
A short film about my journey, from studying art in Belgium to founding my studio in Mumbai. It explains my passion for sustainability and my mission to create timeless beauty from forgotten materials.
I often get asked who I am as an artist. The truth is, I breathe to create. This video shares a little bit of my soul and my belief that art is about curating stories and translating deep emotions into tangible experiences.
In this Q&A, I explain the concept behind 'The Awakening Cycle'. I discuss my choice of materials like fiber and upcycled paper, and how the flowing movements and symbolic hands represent the path to inner balance.
About My Artistic Vision
People often ask how I start a project. It never begins with a simple sketch. It starts with a conversation about what you want to feel, or a memory you want to anchor in your space. We experiment with texture samples, sometimes using paper pulp or gold leaf, until the material feels like it belongs to your story. Before we commit to the final scale, you will touch and feel these samples in your own home or office lighting, so we know the final piece will breathe with the room.
Sustainability as a Foundation
My practice is rooted in a simple belief. What we discard can find new life. In my studio in Breach Candy, Mumbai, I work primarily with upcycled paper. Whether it is a large commission for an office or a smaller sculpture for a private collection, I break down the material, reform it, and build it back up layer by layer. This process is slow, but it allows the art to hold its own weight and tell its own story.
Why Texture Matters
I am drawn to art that demands to be felt. If you stand in front of one of my pieces, you will see shadows play across the surface because of the relief depth. I often combine this tactile, sculptural element with WPC wood backing and resin to ensure the work is permanent and durable. My collection, 'The Awakening Cycle', is a perfect example of this. It uses fiber and paper to explore themes of transformation and inner balance.
The Process
Every project is a collaboration. When you reach out, we begin by mapping your narrative to an artistic concept. For commercial projects, I often create a digital visualization superimposed on your actual wall, followed by physical samples to ensure the relief depth and colors are perfect for your lighting conditions. My goal is to create work that feels alive, whether it is displayed in a gallery or your living room.
Shruti Jhaveri
I am Shruti, and I believe art should be something you can feel, not just look at. Whether it is a massive wall installation or a live performance, I focus on using upcycled materials to tell stories that truly resonate. Let's talk about what we can create together.
