Featured Art Commissions and Custom Creative Projects
I create art that connects. From live event paintings to sculptures made of soil, this collection is a look at the stories I have brought to life through different mediums.
I love capturing the energy of a special day as it unfolds. This is a time-lapse of a live painting I did at a wedding reception, creating a unique piece of memorabilia for the couple to cherish forever.
A client wanted to immortalize a precious memory in Goa. Using watercolors, I recreated the serene coastal view, turning their personal moment into a piece of art for their home.
I find so much joy in giving old items a new life. Here, I'm transforming a pair of worn-out canvas shoes into wearable art with an ocean wave design, blending my love for painting and sustainability.
This interactive portrait of the Joker, titled 'Hidden in Plain Sight', explores the masks we wear. Viewing the painting through the red filter reveals the man behind the makeup, inviting a conversation about mental health.
A portrait can be more than just paint on paper. This piece, created for a coffee lover, uses actual coffee to paint a tender moment with their beloved pet, making the artwork truly personal.
A simple tote bag becomes a canvas for a quick, minimalistic painting. This is an example of how I create functional, everyday art that you can carry with you.
Your story can be told in many ways. For this couple's engagement, I designed a custom digital invitation that animated their journey, complete with personalized illustrations and a touch of floral magic.
This sculpture, 'Dirty Fertility', is made from soil and explores the connection between Mother Earth and the taboos surrounding female fertility. It's a piece that asks us to reconsider what we label as 'dirty' and what we hold sacred.

About Featured
When you commission a piece, I don't just ask what you want painted. We start with a conversation about the memory or feeling you are trying to capture. Whether it is a portrait painted with coffee, a live sketch at your reception, or an upcycled decor piece, I aim to create something that feels like a shared secret between us. My process involves one rough draft, where we work out the kinks together, before I move to final execution on archival paper or canvas.
I see art as a way to hold space for emotions, which is why my work varies so much. One day I might be doing a live painting at a wedding, capturing the movement of the crowd and the specific energy of the couple, and the next, I am creating a conceptual installation about mental health or female fertility taboos.
My Approach to Custom Work
-
Upcycling and Sustainability: I find beauty in discarded items. Turning old tote bags, worn-out shoes, or scrap wood into functional art is about giving objects a new story. If you have an item you want to breathe new life into, I can paint it with durable, water-resistant acrylics.
-
Portraits and Landscapes: I work with various mediums, including charcoal, watercolor, and even coffee. Coffee painting creates beautiful sepia tones that work perfectly for pet portraits or nostalgic landscapes. All charcoal and dry media pieces are treated with fixative sprays, while canvas work is finished with UV-resistant varnish to ensure it lasts.
-
The Process: Whether it is a digital invitation or a physical canvas, every project begins with a consultation. I want to know the 'why' behind your request. We follow a workflow that includes a concept development phase and one round of revisions, ensuring the final piece matches your vision before I finalize the details.
I am based in Bangalore but I ship across India, so distance does not stop us from creating something together. Let's make something that feels real.
Madhuri Umashankar
I'm Madhuri. I believe art shouldn't be hidden behind 'do not touch' signs, so I make pieces you can play with, wear, or experience. I’m self-taught, which means I skip the rigid rules and focus on turning your stories and discarded materials into something meaningful.
