Angamardana and Classical Bodyweight Fitness
A comprehensive fitness system that uses your natural body weight to build strength and suppleness, designed to make your system a capable instrument for life.
Weight training can build bulky muscle without suppleness. The yogic system, including practices like Angamardana, focuses on using your own body weight to build muscle that is both strong and flexible, ensuring your body's geometry is well-aligned.
Here is a simple fitness test from Sadhguru: can you stand up from a cross-legged position using only your two legs? This is a basic level of fitness you must maintain. Practices like Angamardana ensure your body remains this capable.
About Angamardana & Bodyweight Fitness
Unlike gym workouts that often build bulky muscle without suppleness, Angamardana focuses on building strength alongside flexibility. Because we use only your body weight, it is a practice you can maintain throughout your life. Please note that for all my sessions, you must come on an empty stomach, as a four hour gap after a full meal is strictly required for your system to properly engage with the process.
Building a Capable Instrument
Angamardana is not about fitness in the superficial sense. It is a system to strengthen the body’s fundamental geometry. When you use your own body weight rather than external gym equipment, you align your muscular system to be both powerful and flexible. This creates a body that is durable and capable, rather than one that is merely bulky.
What the Workshop Covers
I conduct these sessions in an intensive weekend format. This is not a drop-in fitness class. You will learn a sequence designed to work with your skeletal structure and core, covering:
- Standing series: Focusing on leg strengthening and balance.
- Squatting series: Addressing hip mobility and core engagement.
- Sitting and lying series: Building abdominal strength.
Why Practice This Way?
Many people struggle with standard fitness because they confuse exhaustion with health. Angamardana is about working with your own capacity. Whether you are in my Ghansoli studio or participating in an intensive workshop elsewhere, the goal is the same: to create a system that is in sync with itself. If you can maintain the discipline of the empty stomach and the commitment to the practice, you will find that the body stops being a burden and becomes a source of stability.
Is it for you?
This practice is suitable for beginners, but you should expect muscle soreness as your body adapts to these movements. If you have specific physical limitations or are looking for injury management, I also offer private correction sessions to tailor the geometry of the postures to your needs.
