Yoga Workshops for Student Stress Relief

It was a privilege to guide first-year medical students at MGM College through a session on yoga for relaxation and harmony. We covered neck practices to release study-induced tension and Nada Yoga to create inner balance, providing them with tools to navigate their challenging journey.
At SIES College of Engineering, we explored how yoga can be a student's best friend for tackling stress and sharpening the mind. This session included an engaging talk, simple neck practices, and a guided meditation, showing students that mental wellness is accessible to everyone.
About Stress Relief for Students
These aren't long, exhausting classes. For students dealing with back-to-back lectures or exam anxiety, I focus on 'Upa Yoga'—quick, directional movements that specifically release the neck and shoulder tension caused by long hours of studying. We follow this with Nada Yoga (sound-based practice) to help you mentally switch off and recharge even on your busiest days.
In my experience working with students—from first-year medical students at MGM College to engineering cohorts at SIES—the biggest hurdle isn't just lack of time; it is the constant mental chatter. My sessions aren't about holding complex poses for an hour; they are about giving you a toolkit you can use right at your desk or in a library.
We focus on three main areas:
- Physical Relief: Desk-bound study habits lead to severe neck and shoulder strain. We use Upa Yoga, a set of simple, directional movements to unlock that tension in minutes without needing a yoga mat.
- Mental Clarity: Through simple breathing (Pranayama) and Nada Yoga (sound), we work to settle the nervous system. This is especially helpful for those preparing for intense exams where anxiety can block performance.
- Energy Management: We discuss diet and simple habits that prevent that afternoon slump when you are trying to study.
