About Event Gallery & Announcements
Every poster represents a different challenge, whether it is maintaining the rhythmic flow for a three-hour vocal accompaniment or the technical precision needed for a solo recital. You will notice that my performance formats change based on the venue, ranging from large-scale auditorium stages to intimate baithaks where the sound needs to be delicate and precise.
My approach to performance is defined by the context of the event. When I perform as a soloist, the focus is on traditional gharana techniques, where I manage everything from the lehra to the mathematical improvisation of the upaj. This requires a different set of preparations, including selecting specific dayans to match the raga and ensuring the harmonium or sarangi player is perfectly aligned with the time-cycle.
For collaborative performances, such as my work with the Anirudh Varma Collective or jugalbandis, I shift my style to support the ensemble. In these cases, I focus on dynamics that cut through mixed instruments, including electric zitar or drum kits. I carry multiple sets of professional tabla and dagga to adapt to the pitch and acoustics of different venues, whether that is a standard concert hall in Pune or a specialized space like the NMACC in Mumbai.
I treat every booking as a fresh conversation with the audience. My goal is to ensure that whether you hear me at a large festival or a private event, the rhythm communicates the story of the music clearly. If you are looking to bring a traditional tabla element to your event or require classical accompaniment, we can discuss the setup that works best for your space.
