From intimate baithaks in Mumbai to festival stages in Brooklyn, music is my journey. I travel to share the rhythm, collaborating with maestros and friends worldwide.

A cherished photo with Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan Sahab by the river during our Madhya Pradesh tour. The time spent off-stage with such legends is as educational as the time on-stage.

Sharing a meal with Ustad ji in Surat. These informal moments, filled with stories and musical chats, are a precious part of the journey.

An airport selfie with the legend himself, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan Sahab, as we head off for our Madhya Pradesh tour. The learning never stops.

Another airport selfie with Ustad ji. Traveling with a master is a constant lesson in humility, dedication, and of course, music.

A happy picture with the brilliant brothers, Alam Khan Da and Arjun Verma bhai, after our concerts in Albuquerque. The camaraderie between artists is a special bond.

A moment of musical discussion on stage with Alam Khan Da. These on-stage interactions are where the magic of improvisation happens.

A video showing our soundcheck in a beautiful, warm-toned hall in Albuquerque. Getting the sound just right is crucial for a good concert experience.

With the respected Sarod maestro Ken Zuckerman ji in Hyderabad. It was always a pleasure to perform with him and learn from his vast experience.

About On The Road: Concerts & Collaborators

When you book a concert or collaboration, the soundcheck is our foundation. Whether it is an intimate baithak or a large festival venue, I require 45 minutes to properly tune the tabla and set the mic levels. This ensures the acoustic resonance of the bayan is captured accurately, which is essential for a professional performance.

My musical life is defined by the people I play with and the places we go. Being a traveling musician is about more than just showing up on stage; it is about building a rapport with the lead artist and understanding the acoustics of every space.

Whether I am accompanying a Sitar maestro like Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan Sahab on a tour through Madhya Pradesh or jamming with friends in Albuquerque, my goal remains the same: to listen and respond. In an ensemble, I focus on the 'Jugalbandi' (duet) interaction, adjusting my playing style to support the vocalist or instrumentalist while maintaining the integrity of the taal.

Why my approach works for events:

  • Travel-Ready: I am accustomed to flying and driving for performances. I bring my own instrument, which I tune to the lead artist's scale, and I travel with backup gear for unexpected needs.
  • Adaptable Sound: I have performed in high-decibel corporate settings and quiet, carpeted baithaks. I understand how to manage mic placement for both.
  • Collaborative Spirit: I have played with artists ranging from jazz musicians to vocalists. My background in both traditional Lucknow gharana and modern fusion allows me to adapt to the vibe of your event.

If you are planning an event or a concert, let's discuss your requirements. I am always happy to chat about the technical setup, travel, and how we can bring the right rhythm to your stage.

I’m Unmesh, and I see every concert as a fresh conversation. Whether I’m keeping time for a Sitar maestro or jamming with a jazz artist, my job is to listen first and play second. I love the chaos of travel and the stillness of the stage—it is where the music really lives.
