Our Approach to Vocal Training

Music at Thirkan is a journey rooted in the Guru-Shishya tradition. When you join our vocal classes, you are not just learning to sing, you are engaging with a discipline passed down through generations. Our methodology centers on building a solid foundation, starting from basic sargam (Sa Re Ga Ma) and alankars to help you gain control over your pitch and tone.

What to Expect in Class

• Baithak Learning: We conduct our sessions in a traditional floor-seating format. This encourages a focused environment where the teacher can provide direct, individual attention to hand placement on the harmonium and voice modulation.
• Curriculum: We cover foundation Raags like Yaman and Bilawal, alongside devotional bhajans and seasonal folk songs. Whether you are a child just starting out or an adult picking up singing for the first time, we adjust the pace to suit your learning speed.
• Live Accompaniment: Every session is supported by live harmonium accompaniment. This ensures you learn to maintain rhythm and key, which is crucial for singing with confidence.

Exam and Performance Preparation

We provide structured guidance for students interested in formal certification through Prayag Sangeet Samiti or Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. For those who enjoy the stage, we incorporate performance training into our classes, preparing students for annual showcases like our 'Aarohan' event. This helps build stage presence and reduces performance anxiety in a supportive setting. We focus on progress over perfection, ensuring every student feels heard and encouraged.
