Glazing is where chemistry meets art. We are always testing new glaze combinations, from volcanic craters to smooth celadon, to see how materials react in the fire.

This glaze test shows a thick, glossy black glaze that has crawled and beaded up, creating a rich, bumpy texture. It's these happy accidents that often lead to the most interesting results.

Every kiln firing brings a new surprise because the chemistry of these glazes is alive. When we plan your piece, we do not just pick a color, we talk about the texture you want to hold in your hand, whether it is the rough, cratered surface of a volcanic glaze or something smooth and glassy.
Our process is rarely about getting a perfect, machine-made finish. It is about 'clay with joy', as we like to say. When we work with glazes, we embrace the crawling or beading that sometimes happens, because those happy accidents often create the most beautiful patterns. Whether it is the metallic luster of Raku firing or the way two distinct glazes melt into each other on a test tile, we are constantly learning from the fire.
