Beauty in Imperfection: Hand-crafted Ceramic Art

I don't strive for perfection. Sometimes a pot cracks or the glaze does something unexpected. For me, these quirks are the story, not the mistake.

A piece called 'Hope' that broke after firing. In pottery, we learn to love broken things and the lessons they teach us.

The same 'Hope' piece, mended. Sometimes we fix things, sometimes we let them go. This time, I chose to fix it, and now it has a new story to tell.

Heartbreak happens in the studio too. This plate, which I was so excited about, developed a crack. It's a reminder that not everything can be fixed, and that's okay.

The kiln is always full of surprises. This video shows the results of a recent firing, including some pieces with unexpected cracks and glaze runs. I'm learning to embrace these quirks as part of their unique character.

About Beauty in Imperfection

When you hold one of my pieces, you might spot an uneven rim or a slight glaze variation. These aren't accidents; they are proof that a human hand shaped the clay. If you are hunting for machine-made perfection, this collection probably isn't for you. But if you want a piece of home decor that has survived the unpredictable heat of the kiln and come out with its own personality, I think you’ll really connect with these.

I’ve spent ten years learning the 'art of letting go.' In my studio, the kiln is the final judge. Sometimes, a piece comes out perfectly; other times, a crack appears—toh yeh toh hona hi tha (this was bound to happen). Instead of tossing these away, I’ve learned to appreciate the wabi-sabi nature of pottery. Whether it is a Mishima-carved plate or a delicate vase, the quirks are where the story lives. I don't use moulds, so every ceramic item I make is a one-of-a-kind original. You get the variations in texture and shape that come with slow, traditional pottery techniques. It’s messy, it’s frustrating, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My process involves constant trial and error, recycling clay, and hours spent at the wheel, all of which leaves its mark on the final piece. Choosing a piece from this collection means you are accepting that life—and art—isn't always about clean lines and uniformity. It is about character.

I'm Malvika. I live for the messy, slow days where clay becomes art. I don't use moulds, so every piece here is a 1/1 creation, quirks and all.
