The Guru's Touch: Hands-On Yoga Adjustments
Real change begins with proper alignment. In my studio, I do not just watch from the mat; I intervene, guiding your body into the correct posture so you heal rather than strain.
Learning yoga can be made easier and safer with the right guidance. Here, I am assisting a student in a backbend using wall ropes and a bolster, and another in a supported wheel pose using an aerial hammock. These adjustments ensure proper form and build confidence.
To increase hip flexibility, partner adjustments can be very effective. Here, an instructor carefully assists students in a supine wide-legged stretch, helping them to release tension in the inner thighs and groin area.
An instructor assists students with a chair and stick to deepen their backbends. This technique helps to improve upper back mobility and open the heart center, which is essential for both physical and emotional well-being.
The studio is a space for guided growth. Here you can see me assisting students in various poses, including a supported handstand split, ensuring they are stable and aligned.
An instructor helps a student work towards Eka Pada Rajakapotasana using a chair. This advanced adjustment requires trust and precise guidance to safely open the hips and quadriceps.
An instructor assists a student in Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose) using a wall ladder for support. This helps with balance and allows for a deeper hamstring stretch.
A young student is guided through a supported locust pose (Salabhasana) variation. Using a chair and hands-on assistance helps build back strength and prepares the body for deeper backbends.
About this collection
If you think you are getting a stretch but aren't feeling it in the right places, you are likely misaligned. My hands-on method ensures you are not just mimicking a pose but actually working the intended muscle groups. I use iron chairs, wall ropes, and manual corrections to force that correct alignment. It is physically demanding, and that is exactly the point. You come here to do the work, not to relax.
Why Hands-On Matters
In many classes, students simply mimic their teacher from a distance. That is how injuries happen. My approach to hands-on adjustments is about precision. Whether we are using wall ropes for spinal traction or iron chairs for backbends, I am there to move your limbs, correct your pelvis, or open your shoulders manually.
The Science of Props and Touch
I do not treat props as luxury items. A yoga wheel or a belt acts as an extension of my hands. If you are struggling with a slip disc or frozen shoulder, simply telling you to 'go deeper' is irresponsible. Instead, I use passive stretching methods where I control the movement of your body, ensuring you reach the full range of motion safely without straining your tendons.
Moving Beyond the Comfort Zone
We practice in a naturally ventilated hall in New Ashok Nagar. You will sweat, and you will feel the burn. This is a non-negotiable part of the process. If you want a soft, gentle class, this is not the place for you. You are here to fix your alignment, improve your flexibility, and manage conditions like PCOD, thyroid, or spinal pain.
If you have an MRI report or a history of severe pain, bring it. We start by assessing your current range of motion before we even attempt an asana. Real parivartan (change) requires discipline. If you are ready to put in the work, I am ready to guide you.
Sunil Yogi
I am Yogi Sunil, and I founded Soul to Shiva because I was tired of seeing people hurt themselves with bad form. I believe that if you are not sweating and struggling, you are not doing the work. My teaching is strict, alignment-focused, and designed for those who actually want results.
